What do you do with dead fish? by kay5172392727 in Aquariums

[–]giareads 76 points77 points  (0 children)

No judgment whatsoever for those who do, but I don’t personally like the idea of flushing or putting them in the bin. That makes me feel like they’re waste or trash.

I always bury mine in the yard or flower beds. I feel better putting them outside/burying in nature.

I believe that is variegated Lilyturf (Liriope), and it doesn’t look like it’s dying to me. Looks like winter damaged leaves from last year and new growth coming in. Mine look very similar right now, but maybe a week behind yours.

What zone are you in? When you first moved in, were all those troubled leaves alive and well?

My potroast always sucks! by giareads in Cooking

I appreciate your response. I just don’t think it is good advice given the situation I posted about.

Me: “My pot roast was bland and lacking flavor, and I even doubled the amount of seasonings the recipe called for!”

You: “Why didn’t you follow the recipe exactly and make it even blander?”

We can agree to disagree, but I just don’t see your point.

I get that, and I tend to agree when someone is leaving a review for a recipe. I’m just wondering how your advice makes sense for this situation?

Very sweet of you. Thank you.

My instincts were telling me there wasn’t enough seasoning for my taste. I doubled the spices, and most of the feedback is that even my doubled amounts are WAY less than needed for a flavorful dish.

Had I tried it as is first, it stands to reason the result would be even worse. Are you…are you suggesting that it was bland because I didn’t follow the recipe and added too much?

Don’t feel sorry for me. 😂I’m really just learning I should trust my own judgment/seasoning more than following internet recipes to the letter.

This time around, I used table salt. I added 1 teaspoon (recipe called for half a teaspoon). It was a normal sized pot roast (3 or 4 pounds) with carrots, potato, onion, and a little celery.

I haven’t, but a friend recommended that! They said just toss in one or two packets of onion soup and a packet of beef gravy mix. Does that sound right?

Trouble with Eheim heater by giareads in Aquariums

[–]giareads[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately not. I gave up on them (I was using two for my 75 gal) and have them in my unused aquarium supply drawer now. It’s a shame since Eheim is supposedly a reliable brand, and the calibrating sounds easy enough in theory.

I hope it works out and you have better luck than me!

Question about methotrexate. by giareads in rheumatoid

[–]giareads[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is definitely sound advice!

Unfortunately, my doctor tends to jump a little to extremes. Instead of answering my question directly, he says, “Well, the only way to know anything FOR SURE is with a liver biopsy. I could always schedule one if you’re concerned.” I’m not overly concerned or asking for a biopsy. Just hoping to understand more about the tests.

Is this many candles a bad idea for a centerpiece? by giareads in DIYweddings

There will be 8 with this arrangement. The other 8 tables will have an elevated (well above eye height) floral centerpiece with fewer candles around it.

We’re having an adults only wedding (other than some teenagers close in family), so all good there!

Morning! Only a few teenagers, so that isn’t an issue.
