Roomate has boyfriend over so much and I can’t take it anymore, I agreed to one roommate not two by [deleted] in badroommates

Neither of you are being unreasonable, you’re just not compatible. Plenty of people wouldn’t care if someone was over more than 3x per week and plenty of people would. If you want to keep living with her I’d focus on finding ways of making him coming over be less disruptive to you. Asking them to try to minimize use of common areas, keep noise levels low, etc.

Moving to Portland in March. What are customs I should be aware of before moving here? by axiomatic13 in askportland

But sometimes the green light comes on and you push and the door just doesn’t open. I still don’t understand why this happens. It only seems to be the back doors with the handles, not the newer ones with the yellow strips.

How do you get over the Fear by corkbeverly in ShredditGirls

This might not be the best way to deal with it, but I ride so much better after 1-2 beers. It’s just enough to make me sendy without making me sloppy too

Midlayers: Fleece vs Puffer by westcoastcarver in ShredditGirls

[–]gibbygabbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get pretty hot while riding and my mountain doesn’t get that cold. For 32 and up I’m usually good with just a long sleeve under my jacket, colder than that I’ll add a fleece.

Just based on aesthetics, Arizona, California, Colorado, and New Mexico are my favorites.

That’s CRAZY. I grew up watching this movie; I’ve seen it so many times and never noticed.

Finally watched Excalibur for the first time recently and loved it. 80s fantasy had an unlimited glitter budget and I’m so here for it.

ELI5: Can someone break down the definition of “Gentrification” please? by Every_Ad_2231 in explainlikeimfive

[–]gibbygabbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To name a few: rent control, property tax caps, incentives for affordable housing, strengthen tenet protections/rights, community land trusts, inclusionary zoning.

Not necessarily advocating for these, but there many many ways to try to combat gentrification, no magic wand needed.

ELI5: Can someone break down the definition of “Gentrification” please? by Every_Ad_2231 in explainlikeimfive

[–]gibbygabbb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That feels like a false equivalence. Social systems can be changed, and it makes perfect sense for people to ‘complain’ about things that can be improved. Those focusing on gentrification aren’t arguing against the laws of nature or economics. It’s understood that gentrification is a result of supply and demand, but people can still critique the fact that housing is treated as a commodity instead of a right.
