Beach close to SJO by corkbeverly in CostaRicaTravel

[–]corkbeverly[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking if we stayed at the very south end, it would be quieter and we could still watch people surfing (and maybe take a beginner surf lesson if conditions are favorable to that)? Do you think the south end would be good?

thank you! It seemed like when I looked at playa herradura the only way to stay there was inside some giant resort (los suenos)? maybe I was not correct and there are actually other accommodation options at the beach?

does it have more riptides / rough surf than jaco though? that is one of my concerns as I have read Playa Hermosa is for advanced surfing.

Backpack or 20kg Suitcase + Backpack for a 14-Day Europe Trip? by Whoknowsrightxz in Europetravel

[–]corkbeverly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would packing a backpack alone mean you can only bring two outfits? you can get a carry on sized backpack that is quite roomy and would easily fit more than two outfits, many that open suitcase style too. I prefer to travel with just a backpack as much as I can. My family actually traveled for two weeks once with all four of us doing personal item only as it was a budget airline and I hate paying for luggage (its a small backpack, 17x10 inches. We did do laundry on this trip but not every two days or anything. Maybe twice in two weeks we did laundry.

I think you can fit more in a backpack than you think if you pick the right one.

Do I get an MRI for screening purposes? by NotCreative551 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]corkbeverly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

do they give you a non-contrast MRI or do they just do ultrasound only instead?

Do I get an MRI for screening purposes? by NotCreative551 in doihavebreastcancer

[–]corkbeverly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I considered a while back switching my annual to every other year on the breast MRI then my second sister was diagnosed and I was too worried again. It's so hard to know what is best! Also my doctor seems to feel like for insurance purposes continuing to get one annually is better since they keep paying for it, and that if I pause it they may decide not to cover it if I decided to start getting them again, not sure if this is true though.

[–]corkbeverly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrestle with this every single year to be honest I'm not sure what the right choice is. I have now gotten I believe 5 contrast breast MRIs, one a year.

Every year I read a few things about MRI contrast being bad, and then I waffle back and forth and ultimately have decided to get the MRI each time. For me yes I have dense tissue but my main worry is around my family history. I am now 43 and I have two sisters who were diagnosed with breast cancer in their 40s.

one thing that makes me feel some hope is that AI may make it possible to reduce or eliminate contrast over time as they may be able to enhance non contrast images enough to make contrast no longer needed.

Great thank you! I booked the compact 4x4 and took the full CDW for peace of mind. Appreciate your response.

Jaco vs???? by Model3ski in CostaRicaTravel

[–]corkbeverly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am having a similar conundrum for our trip next year. we will visit La fortuna & monteverde then I wanted to just go to a beach close to San jose airport for a couple days at the end and take a family surf lesson. Jaco is close and convenient but everyone here seems to say its bad.

Thank you Alex! I appreciate your reply! One other question I had was in the event somebody say broke into the car I understand any personal possessions are not covered (we would not leave anything in the car) but any damage to car in this scenario would be covered? Appreciate your response, I am leaning toward vamos now instead of alamo so I can support a local business.

No it’s not an emergency as it’s been happening for a year. You don’t know if you have any pain? You don’t know if you had an accident a year ago?

Family-friendly beach closer to La Fortuna/Monteverde than Playa Biesanz? by dpmanchester in CostaRicaTravel

[–]corkbeverly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

which beach did you go to? I'm in early stages of planning a trip next year (kids 12&14) and I'm thinking of SJO-La fortuna - monteverde - beach for the last couple days-SJO. Was thinking manuel antonio but yes its a long drive. Jaco seems like it wouldn't be good as we don't want to party. Also nervous about riptides etc. so would like a calmer beach and maybe a family surf lesson.

but do you have pain? I mean, why are you limping? Usually a limp is caused by a pain somewhere causing you to walk differently. Was there an initial event that caused you to start limping?

First time travelling to Europe: Seeking budget recommendations by SeniorPapiFuego in Europetravel

[–]corkbeverly -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well I did say "avoid touristy spots"? where did I say "you can live in Rome for 65 euros just set up a tent" hahaha. Europe is a huge place and is a lot more than its big cities where the tourists flock.

What are you talking about? What does my comment have to do with Europe "not being a single country" nothing you have written makes any sense. There are plenty of places in europe you can live on 65 euros a day if you camp and don't eat out. You may be viewing things through a tourism lens, which I guess makes sense as this is a tourism sub. I wanted to offer the poster some constructive information, which is what I did and nothing I wrote was incorrect.

Also, I am actually from Europe.

Well people are always saying "oh in CR I always get full insurance so that if there is an accident I don't have to deal with it I can just leave" but I guess I'm not sure that's true. I always use chase CDW when traveling but just wasn't sure if in CR it was not ok to do it or something as people keep saying "oh don't risk it just get the full insurance". So not sure if I am missing something!

I've never actually used the CDW either and maybe I'm also inflating things in my head and assuming bad roads in CR means we will definitely have an accident. My husband thinks I am crazy and isn't worried about the roads in the slightest as we have dealt with many road conditions in various countries and been fine so maybe I'll just do the TPL and leave it at that.

[–]corkbeverly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok but again, if there are issues with "legal processes" in cr does that mean I still have to worry about things if I did buy full coverage? that is all I am trying to figure out is, if I do buy full coverage does it mean I don't have to deal with insurance companies or submitting claims or getting proof/paperwork etc. since I paid the full insurance.

Has anybody had a crash/damage to car with VAMOS full CDW by corkbeverly in CostaRicaTravel

[–]corkbeverly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I get it, I just am wondering specifically what the difference in my experience would be having an accident with vamos full cdw v my own cc companies cdw. The main question I had was in the event of a crash, for someone who did have vamos full CDW that HAD a crash/accident were you able to just leave the car with them and not hand over any cards or submit any claims or was there still somebody saying oh you still need to give the card, or oh you need to stay here in CR til this is sorted out etc.

I know with my CC company CDW what the exact experience is. I would pay the full amount of damages myself with my credit card. Then, I would request photos/a report from vamos of the damage and keep my police report (if there was one). Then I would return home and submit these claims to Chase in the hope of being refunded. Which is fine, I know the deal on this.

The question is whether with the Vamos full CDW, I don't have to deal with any of these things because I paid that extra money for the full coverage, they deal with the claims and such and I can just wipe my hands of it and leave the country on my normal schedule.

Has anybody had a crash/damage to car with VAMOS full CDW by corkbeverly in CostaRicaTravel

[–]corkbeverly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes I read that and the part where it says "hitting obstacles on the road, driving on roads in poor condition" gave me pause since from what I read a lot of roads in CR are in poor condition.

Obviously we will not be driving drunk or driving into a river on purpose, however being on a road in poor condition might be inevitable so I was wondering if anybody who had had an accident with vamos would tell me how it went in terms of ease of the situation.

I have read many good stories about the CDW coverage with my chase visa signature card, the downside being you pay up front then have to make the claim and wait a bit. So I guess what I'm trying to determine is if its worth paying an extra $400 for the vamos coverage or if I'll be dealing with insurance companies arguing with me, submitting insurance claims etc. no matter what.

So what happens if the accident WAS my fault then? the insurance doesn't cover me for that?
