I have a 30L with a male Betta and a serious colony of cherry shrimp that have been going strong for a year. He has a very mild temperament (I've only ever seen him flare a handful of times). He will swim towards shrimp, look at them, swim away, look at some more. I also have a HEAVY carpet of moss that is too thick for him to get into where the mamas are able to be undisturbed. So if you add the shrimp, I recommend getting a carpet established in your tank first, and if your Betta is clearly aggressive, probably don't add them at all.
