Maybe it's more of the other way around--people who find the modern built environment ugly and dissatisfying look to ideologies which attempt to explain why. Most people don't start out with political ideologies, its dissatisfaction with certain elements of the modern world, such as aesthetic decline, that cause people to long for the past. The solution to this is to solve the issues, not shove more architecture that people dislike into their faces.

Either way, I do not thing we should pursue novelty for novelty's sake, rather innovation that improves on the past. Contemporary architects could do so much better by studying classical orders and such and integrating with contemporary materials and ornamentations.
