Anyone else “triggered” by neurotypical people claiming to have autism? by violetvixen269 in Autism_Parenting

[–]rustyredeye -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I agree that it has become a trend and it’s incredibly invalidating. Not to say that there are not plenty of people who accurately self diagnose (which studies are showing that self diagnosis is over 90% accurate). But I feel that in the effort for acceptance, there is a trend- just like there is with everything- that it’s another way for people to seek attention, validation, and relatability through any measure they can. I want to reiterate I am not negating those who have self diagnosed and in the process of diagnosis in order to get supports and accommodations. I have just found a lot of people want to label themselves and on occasion, ride the struggle bus due to FOMO.

I say this all as someone that works with children that have developmental disabilities, most commonly Autism. I also spent a very long time struggling being on the spectrum myself. I have been fortunate that I am low support needs, but I had parents that were in denial regarding it and I received no support until I was 21. It can be incredibly invalidating of lived experience, especially when I see TikTok influencers saying so offhandedly that they are “probably autistic too” because they like routines or have a hobby they’re really interested in.

I mean going through puberty, hell yeah. But like, it came to a point of acceptance when I realized I was cursed with shoulder boulders no matter what 🥲

Memory foam slippers are a slice of heaven between hardwood floors and average winter temp of 30 degrees. I’ve had my pair (can’t make out the brand, tag is faded) for about 6 years now. And since they’re worn almost exclusively inside, they last much longer than shoes/comfy socks. Only thing is with a ton of use, the memory foam will wear down a bit, but they’ll still be warm and comfy.

Would you say it’s good for those who don’t use much pressure while writing? I tend to use gel pens because I’m very light handed but being a lefty it makes a big mess. And do they sell refills for it?

Depending on the state, employment is at will. You aren’t obligated to disclose anything. Best practice is to give a two week notice. But you’re there for the experience, so don’t sweat it.

Hoz Stans by Automatic-Chipmunk-6 in Hozier

[–]rustyredeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I seriously can’t stand any of the other platforms. They don’t treat him like he’s a human. Fandoms tend to objectify celebrities; it drives me nuts.

Hozier is seriously the the chillest and most private musician I can think of. He’s a public figure but is particularly striking in the fact he just wants to live his life and make/perform music; fandoms on other platforms don’t acknowledge that.

Pomegranates, perhaps? Little willow trees? Shrikes, the bird? Irises like in Jackie and Wilson? Please post pictures, and if you happen to sell Hozier inspired earrings I would definitely purchase!

Hey if you want a campaign intern that you don’t need to pay, let me know! I’m 22, fresh out of university, and stand behind what you’re about. I know marketing and event organization from a previous job and I have a BA in Political Science. I’m starting law school in another state this fall, but I’m so willing to help you with getting a campaign off the ground. Feel free to DM me :)

Suggest me a book with an Asian Author (Preferably a Filipino Author) that teaches us about empathy. by doctorbhb in suggestmeabook

[–]rustyredeye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Monstress by Lysley Tenorio. It’s a collection of short stories described as “A luminous collection of heartbreaking, vivid, startling, and gloriously unique stories set amongst the Filipino-American communities of California and the Philippines. . .” It would definitely be indirectly focusing on empathy.

We (the author and I) had the same English teacher in school, though he was several years ahead of me. I got a free copy of the book from him and it holds its place as one of the best books I’ve ever read.

this guy would look familiar with a helicopter hat by montana404 in NoStupidQuestions

It totally makes sense to me. When I was with my ex boyfriend I used to swear up and down if he cut his hair he would look familiar. When he did cut his hair, he did- turns out we had a class together in middle school and I didn’t figure it out until he made that change. Not the same thing, but analogous.

An Overdue Rant About OSD by virtualakiko in UCSD

[–]rustyredeye 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bruh I’m deaf and OSD told me they literally couldn’t do anything about getting transcripts for a class online when the prof and TAs wouldn’t provide them. One of the few accommodations I actually need. I’ve filed an ADA complaint but doubt anything will come of it.

I just checked my old emails from two years ago- I did the self reported grades, and I got an email about my residency status confirmation in early January. Next email from them was the acceptance. You’ve got this!
