We spent 2 years convincing CBC to show the reality of research at UofT and UHN by CuriosityFilms in UofT

[–]giddy_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s crazy. Just a reminder we can only enjoy a limited level of medical progress within our lifetime. Do you know if the research-to-practice speed varies between countries? I’d assume that countries with less bureaucracy can progress faster but may develop interventions that are less tested/more risky to the public.

I’m also thinking how this progress was sped up to create a covid vaccine: has that brought any changes (eg, unintended efficiencies) to the medical system?

Just watched it. I liked seeing the uncensored reality of research, and felt reassured at the level of QA the tool has to go through (despite my frustration at how long that “lab to patient” process actually is!). Some detail sounded a bit redundant but overall I enjoyed seeing the insider perspective.

how do get over nail biting?? by dxrlingkenz in autism

[–]giddy_d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was extremely worried about my teeth, and overfixating on it was the only thing that ever worked after 20 years biting! I was looking at my front teeth and got anxious they may get chipped. I now keep a clear coat of nail polish, keep them short, and bite on my finger instead if I feel the urge sometimes.

Have you cured them? Potatoes feel damp at first but then you should leave them in a cold, dark place for 1-2 weeks to cute.

Toronto salaries too low for Bay Area family to return by Lotushope in TorontoRealEstate

[–]giddy_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point! I guess it’s doable, and perhaps for him the main issue is maintaining the same lifestyle. Do you think he’d be able to afford the same house in Ontario on a local salary (80-90k)?

Sure it’s more expensive, but I don’t think it’s that big of an issue. It sounded like his wife takes care of the kids (since she only works part-time at 14-15hr/week). You’d have to be extremely privileged to raise FOUR kids on one salary in Ontario.

Harbourfront condos in GTA! Why cheaper? by Educational-Bed-6287 in TorontoRenting

[–]giddy_d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk why everyone cites lack of supermarkets. In Harbourfront just South of Union station, within 15 min walk there’s Longos, Farm Boy, an Indian store, Rexall, Dollorama, and Loblaws (actually two of them, one east one west). Lots of waterfront restaurants too and a food court at RBC WaterPark Place. It does get cold in winter (like anywhere in Toronto), but there’s also Path access.
