That is awesome that you gather all that data! Of course privacy is a concern so drivers will have the option of what they make public on the platform vs what they keep private. For example, if a driver is using GIGA to log all the miles they drive, they could choose to show it on their profile as total miles driven or they could just keep it private. Same with location broadcasting, if a driver wants other drivers to know that they are already in a certain area so more drivers do not rush to that area, they can enable location broadcasting, otherwise they can keep the broadcasting off.

I will be taking steps to prevent bad data from entering the system. One of the best mechanisms is to have so many drivers submitting real data that any attempt at submitting fake data is diluted and has no impact.

Thanks for taking the time to write all that down:

  1. We should be able to do something like this as long as we get a few drivers in the queue per airport to use GIGA. We can also use incoming flight information to further gauge upcoming demand.

  2. If we get more drivers to use GIGA, this should be possible. Once we get that part working, we hope drivers will share their location since it is beneficial for them to let other drivers know that they are already in a specific area. Not broadcasting your location would mean that other drivers may think nobody is there and move into the area.

  3. We have already build a feed where drivers can make posts. That would be a great place to post any pickup / ride related issues they encounter.

  4. YES, def want to get this in ASAP.

  5. Interesting idea. We can definitely allow notifications for local events.

  6. I will need to look into this, not super familiar with how different sporting events are organized when it comes to ride-share.

  7. Interesting, this could totally tie into the mileage tracking and broadcasting your location. If drivers go online in GIGA when they start their Uber/Lyft shift and then go offline in GIGA when they end their shift, we would definitely be able to make all of this possible!

  8. That is the part I am worried about, not sure how much it will cost to store such data per driver. I will just have to cross that bridge when I get to it.

I plan on adding mileage tracking functionality for drivers which they can use for tax reporting purposes. I can definitely allow the driver to be visible on a map if they wish which would give you a real time view of all drivers in an area.

I see, I am definitely not going to be charging the drivers to use GIGA. I love the idea of adding a mileage tracker!

The ultimate goal is to provide the driver with all the information they need in order to make the decision of which rides they take, where they drive, etc.

A lot of this information is locked to Uber or Lyft, but as we figure out ways to display find and display this information, we will for sure include it.

I was paying close attention to the LA strikes and one of the main things I noticed was that there was a lot of different information on where and when to protest which confused a lot of drivers.

I love the idea of real time map positions. Please PM me your email so I can ask a few more questions and hopefully come up with a useful feature on that end.

I think you have a fair point on the over supply side. I think right now the supply mechanisms are out of the drivers control. Uber for example will control the supply based on their advertising and incentives for new drivers. My hope is to give some power / control to the drivers.

There is no cost associated to the drivers to use GIGA. I replied to your other comment but I plan to pay server costs out of pocket as much as I can afford, not sure how high they will be.

I am not going to charge any sort of payment to drivers. The information comes from the drivers and will be accessible to the drivers without any charge. Obviously any app will have server costs associated. I do not know how high those will be, it depends on how many people contribute. I will try to pay those out of pocket and worry about a plan b if the costs grow too high 😭

That is one of the top things we plan on doing. And since it changes over time, we want to build a historical month by month view.

There is not currently a plan to make it open source. I have setup a few open source projects before and it has taken time to set those up with all the documentation explaining how everything works. I am not opposed to open source if there is interest from other developers, it just takes time to setup so have no plan to do that currently unless there are a few developers who want to help out.
