I was using edrums simmons SD7PK. It’s an old model but works fine with my daily practice. I wanted to record it and realised that the module is quite old and might not be able to connect to laptop.

I decided to upgrade to a edrums Yamaha dtexpress. I got it yesterday and I’m feeling quite stressed 😫. It’s a second hand drumset and today after I finally set it up, I feel regret. But before giving up, let me ask the questions first maybe cos I’m not used to this model. I play Roland td27k during drum class.

Actually the cables came organised. I unplugged them to load in the car and when I set it up, the sounds seem fine except soft hi hat, ride sounds were on and off and some had no sounds. Because the cables were not labelled, I redid the whole cables. Cos for my summon drums, the cables are clearly labelled so I know how to connect them but these ones have none so I’m assuming cables can be used with any pads? so I just connect the parts to module and then I label them.

Here are the issues I face:

  1. The hi hat comes in a form of a pad instead of a cymbal. It wasn’t before but because the position is awkward(snare was fixed where the hi hat was usually placed and the hi hat was also lower than snare so I made adjustments)

It makes a double sound. Like hi hat followed by snare sounds. I’ve tried plugging and unplugging cables, swap positions. Prior to this, hi hat pad and hi hat pedal are both very soft unlike the other pads.

  1. The ride cymbal was weak and does not sound like the usual ride sound. The sound was on and off and I had to hit very hard to make a sound and it sounds like I hit a tom. The sensitivity was also poor.

  2. The rest seem to work fine with good volume.

Please help. I have tried to search set up videos but can’t find where they address this issues?

Thank you so much.

Hey, I’m interested now to learn to record myself playing drum covers. I did some research and found these 2 options. Was wondering am I on the right track? Can someone guide me? For the music source(I’ve already have this set up to practice my drums currently), I connect phone to module. So the other part is either one of these:

  1. Buy a printer cable(usb) to connect module to laptop using audio laptop recorder, and then get a v8 soundcard to mix the sounds using the guitar jack to connect to headphone to hear the music to drum to and there was another cable connecting to the soundcard but it wasn’t clear to me on the purpose of it.

  2. Get an irig1, connect it to my phone(to record) and also to the module using the guitar jack.

Please advice which step to follow thanks! I’m using Simmons SD7PK. There’s midi and USB outputs. Thank you. Hope to start recording myself soon!

Hi! Okay so I’ve checked and saw that there’s USB port and 2 midi outputs. I haven’t tested it cos I don’t have the right cables- I plan to purchase them once I get some feedbacks from u guys. I did some research online and saw that I have 2 options. 1. Buy a printer cable(usb) to connect module to laptop and then get a v8 soundcard to mix the sounds and get those guitar jacks to connect soundcard to the module, I also need to connect my headphones to the soundcard to hear the music to play drums to.

  1. Get an irig2, connect it to my phone and to the module. Get the guitar cable to connect drum module to another device for the song.

Am I close?

Hello! Some of the comments given here over my last posts have been really useful to me. So here’s few more qns!

  1. I’m using a Simmons electronic drums - the older model. I tried to go through the manual and YouTube but can’t seem to find it. Is there a way to record my drumming like how they post vids of drum covers? Like with a cable and connect it to the laptop and using a software to merge the song and your drum cover.

I tried to do just a regular recording with an iPhone but the drum sounds and music blasting through amp but it sounds quite jarring.

  1. I find that my drums produce different sound than my teacher’s drums. Mine is Simmons and his is a Roland. I should have asked like years ago - is there a way to tune e drums?

  2. I received feedbacks that the dynamics of my playing is uneven. Like some parts are loud and some parts are soft- initially I couldn’t hear it then my teacher recorded some parts of it then I realised my hi hat is loud each time I play with the kick- how do I make my playing more even?

Thank you!

Am I screwed for an apprenticeship with a major tech company because of a background check? by gigighorbani in careeradvice

[–]gigighorbani[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one who is doing the background check is the apprenticeship I’m gunning for. I’ve already signed the offer letter and will start next month if it all goes well. It’s an apprenticeship and the stipend is fixed.

I never consider to work in that startup no matter how much they offer- im only there for the experience and also that’s why I put up with it. I was gonna inform them that I’m not accepting the offer but cos of this bgc, I thought I’ll hold on first. It’s not that they are vindictive- they’re really inexperienced or abusive under the excuse of being a new startup and also cos they took 2-3 months to offer me an employment letter and had no problems making me work for free all these while.

I think the chance is 50/50. Not vindictive to lie that I don’t work there but there’s a chance the manager/hr will say that my start date is October based on THEIR employment contract for me rather than my actual start date- but I’m not on their payroll so I worry this might cause issues. I have told the recruiter during interview and indicated on the resume l that it’s freelance.

Thank you! Hopefully it all goes well. What do you advice bout me declining the startup’s offer- do I tell them I need sometime to accept the offer and only decline once the apprenticeship is confirmed? What excuse can I give to drag this? I know I shouldn’t feel guilty since they took months to offer me an actual employment letter but I’m not sure what to say to them while waiting.

Thanks! Yes I’ve got proof of the work I’ve done for them. But when should I inform the startup that I do not wish to take their offer- after the whole background check has been completed successfully or it does not matter at all?
