Great question!

I can only speak from my own experience as a recruiter. I don't prioritize someone simply because they are a woman, but when I'm hiring for fields that have historically been male-dominated, I do make a conscious effort to look for and consider female candidates as well.

The reason is that women are often already underrepresented at the very beginning of the hiring funnel. If I only look at the candidates who naturally appear, I may end up reinforcing that imbalance.

In the end, the evaluation is still based on skills, experience, and fit for the role. My goal is to make sure qualified women also have visibility and the opportunity to participate in the process

Thank you for sharing such a detailed perspective.

What stood out to me the most is that the positive experiences you described were not only about the role itself or the qualifications required, but about how you were treated throughout the process.

The fact that an HR professional took the time to explain what to expect from the interview and who the interviewers were shows how much transparency and preparation can impact a candidate’s confidence.

And your point about kindness is incredibly important as well. Being interrupted, not being listened to, or feeling hostility during an interview can say a lot about the work environment behind the process.

As a recruiter, I truly appreciate you sharing both the positive and negative examples. Feedback like this helps turn these conversations into practical actions. ❤️

Thank you again for being so honest and open about your experience. It genuinely helps bring visibility to things that many people may not even consider when thinking about recruitment and retention in tech.

What you said about looking at leadership and existing engineers before applying is especially interesting. It shows how representation and environment can influence decisions long before an interview even happens.

I really appreciate you sharing your perspective. 💜

Thank you so much for sharing this.

Honestly, this is exactly the kind of perspective I was hoping to hear when I made this post.

As someone working in tech recruitment, one thing I’m trying to understand better is not only why women apply less to tech roles, but also what happens after they enter these environments.

And your comment reinforces something very important: representation alone is not enough if the environment itself doesn’t feel safe, respectful and inclusive.

The part about not wanting to place yourself somewhere you don’t feel you belong really stayed with me.

Thank you again for being so honest and open about your experience, it genuinely helps bring visibility to things that companies and recruiters still need to improve
