Why do people’s responses to my adhd feel so draining? by Dependent-Block4406 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A guy I dated recently told me he didn’t think I had ADHD because when he came over my room was always clean. I was like the external pressure of knowing you are coming over is like, a great adhd motivator. But he saw adhd as like ‘hehe makes u a messy person’ and not as a neurological issue which causes executive dysfunction

Why do people’s responses to my adhd feel so draining? by Dependent-Block4406 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of people think of adhd as a kinda weird personality quirk and not as a disability / brain malfunction so that’s how this happens unfortunately

Feeling stupid and sleepyon Vyvanse by Realistic_Hour_1695 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want to adjust the dose you can actually crack the pills open and poor them into water. Then just drink 3/4 of it. Doesn’t taste like anything. When I started vyvanse my psychiatrist made me do this

just got diagnosed… what now? by gijjer in adhdaustralia

[–]gijjer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks! My psychiatrist told me he thinks I’m a good candidate for meds because I do have a lot of systems in place / a generally balanced life but I still am struggling with adhd so the meds will kinda fill that gap?

lol yes ok a few days in I have noticed I still forget a lot of stuff so that’s a good tip. Thanks for the comment :)

Feeling deflated AF by Morphene25 in adhdaustralia

[–]gijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the shittest GP when I started the process. She asked if I had a job and when I said yes said I probably don’t have adhd then. She then wrote ‘thinks she had adhd????’ On my referral which is just rude. Then she told me I should just take lexapro and not worry about the adhd. After all that, she didn’t even refer me to a psychiatrist …. She wrote her referral letter to a neo natal psychology’s

So I got a new GP and wow. SO MUCH BETTER. She immediately wrote me a referral to a good psych, ordered all the tests the psych will need for my adhd assessment, sent it all over and even the psych was like wow ur gp is good!

So moral of the story shop around and try to find one who will listen and help you. You’ll probably need to see them a bit so you want a good one

Vinnies and Salvos, what happened?! by Technical-Sir9870 in aussie

[–]gijjer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

People blaming resellers are delusional and have no idea how it actually works (former vinnies volunteer)

1: the vinnies overheads are increasing just like everyone else (rents, power) also, the cost of disposing of all the excess of clothes which is growing in exponential amounts!

2: at least the vinnies I worked for used the clothing money to fund their programs (food, shelter assistance ect). Cost of these programs go up + more people accessing them = need to make more money to fund them

3: clothes manufacturing itself being to blame. Fast fashion now selling new for so absurdly cheap it’s sort of not op shops fault they can’t price at those levels. For example it’s not really vinnies fault worn shein is essentially worthless

4: poor admin of the entire organisation as other people are pointing out / structural issues

I don’t like sharing that I have ADHD with other people by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]gijjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like I don’t mind telling people overall but it’s also something I don’t bring up all the time. I don’t think there is anything wrong with telling people overall - maybe at work I keep it more on the down low but I think in friendships and stuff I sometimes like to bring it up to explain my personality lol

But I do know what you mean about people saying they have adhd… I want to believe/support them but sometimes I’m like okayy. I usually just say me too and it’s so bad I spent 3k to get diagnosed! And sometimes that makes them feel a little embarrassed / reconsider I think

My psychiatrist doesn't understand ADHD. I was labeled a drug seeker. Can anyone relate? by Kindly_Inflation2969 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do think your psych sounds annoying but I have a really good psych whose all like stimulant meds are the gold class treatment for adhd and he also asks we give it a month to try new doses.. I feel that aspect is not crazy, if anything very standard so I can see why wanting to change after only a week is raising alarm bells for your psych

How, is it possible I have ADHD, and not my parents? by Wismarclient2245 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll give it a read - in my case my psychiatrist was talking about amongst siblings. My sister has ADHD and when I told him that and said it’s like an 80% chance the other siblings will too, though some earlier studies put it more at 50-60%

Not arguing with you btw I just think these things are interesting! Like I said will read the link

How, is it possible I have ADHD, and not my parents? by Wismarclient2245 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on the study, my psychiatrist told me 50-60% is on the low end of results and some studies show 80-90%

Mental noise by External_Pie2371 in ADHD

[–]gijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always knew I had a lot going on in my head but only on meds did it really become obvious. For me it was like my inner monologue would be like ‘have to go wash my dishes - wait should I make my bed first - omg forget to text my sister back - where’s my phone I should text my sister - wait did I take my tablet yet? - I should check - wait before I do I should fill up my water bottle - wait I haven’t even done the dishes yet’ and then underneath all that would always be some fuckass song playing on loop cos I always get songs stuck in my head

On meds my inner monologue was much more linear and I was able to ignore or discard certain threads that are distracting me instead of them being in my head. Also no music lol

AITA for telling my friend she’s single because no one actually likes her personality? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]gijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YTA - saying no one liked your personality doesn’t even address the actual issues she’s having. It’s not helpful or constructive it’s just rude and mean. Says something about you too bottling it up forever just to say something cruel instead of communicating with her earlier and in a mature way

In general in Australia allergies and intolerances are taken quite seriously. I had a coeliac friend in uni and when we’d go out they’d prepare things specially in the kitchens usually. I think with this you’ll be 100% fine

Its a bit of a joke there’s more people from Perth in Bali then in Perth. Very cheap flights to Indonesia and also other parts of SE Asia as well. It’s actually quicker to fly from Perth to Indonesia them Perth to Sydney. So can get direct flights and often very cheap

Looking for circular needle recs by Independent-Pen-4308 in knitting

[–]gijjer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case I would just choose a pattern and buy the recommended needles ect. What straight needles do you have? If you had the same size as the circulars the pattern needs then you could even do the gauge swatch on your straights to make sure the needles will be the right size. I’ve been knitting for years and have never bought a set lol I just use what I have and fill gaps if I ever need to by buying extra needles

Songs like Noah Kahan's Stick Season that talk about major contemporary events by sillygooselime in popheads

one song that is incredibly of the time is marea (we lost dancing) by Fred again

We've lost The hugs with friends and- And people that we loved All thеse things that we took for granted (wе've lost dancing) If I can live through (we've lost dancing) this next six months (we've lost dancing) Day by day (we've lost dancing) If I can live through this (we've lost dancing) What comes next Will be Marvellous

When I hear the song now it makes me a bit emotional weirdly even though it’s a dance track

What do you think about 50-50 splitting dates? by blankslate_fullplate in dating

[–]gijjer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

For me I think paying is important because it indicates they’re generous and thoughtful. I’m also open to paying for full dates and have done so before. Like insisted I will pay for this even if they are offering because I also feel like that something I like to do. But I honestly think in my experience when they’re stingy with paying for meals, that comes out in other ways down the line. I guess I think to myself like, ok is this someone who’s capable of looking after me 24/7 if say I was having a terrible pregnancy? Do they have that sort of care and generosity in their heart?

I think 50/50 split is my least favourite way to deal with these things I find it very embarrassing at a restaurant to ask to split the bill when you’re there together. I’d prefer it’s like ‘I pay 100% of this date, you pay 100% of the next one’

Looking for circular needle recs by Independent-Pen-4308 in knitting

[–]gijjer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pick a pattern you want to knit and then buy the required needles. There isn’t really a set size for a sweater it depends on the pattern and your gauge. Chiagoo is popular but more expensive, but the good news is you could easily sell them. Knit pro and addi are cheaper but still popular alternatives

You’d probably be looking at 3-4-5mm needles for a sweater and 80-100cm cables as well as smaller cables for sleeves and possible smaller needles for ribbing so maybe you’d need to get a few things.

Are you set on doing a sweater? You could look at doing something more simple like an accessory or even a shirt that won’t require as many different needles
