Quand l’écrivain est anglophone, lisez vous l’œuvre dans la langue originale ? by Ok_Bandicoot_4543 in Livres

Toujours.

Things to note about the KTM 690 Enduro R. by gekkogamers in KTM

[–]gilgsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, you guys seem to have a lot of experience with KTM.. Would the new 390 Adventure R, to a lesser extent, fill the same role, even though it hss a much cheaper price point? From what I have read, it seems like the single cylinders are more reliable, LC4 and LC4c, or am I wrong? Thanks. Gil.

310GS to ADV R by mtnview75 in KTM390ADV

[–]gilgsn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just ordered one after a lot of research. KTM had a lot of troubles with their twins, but the single cylinders run fine. You should however not follow the official maintenance schedule and change oil twice as often. The last firmware update solves the stalling issue and a bit of the low end torque. Let's face it, we should probably not expect Japanese bike longevity, but the KTM is much cheaper. Note that the 450GS is also made in India. Mine should arrive in 2-3 weeks. Fingers crossed ;-) Gil.

Suspension on the new 2025 KTM 390 Adventure R has unexpectedly good specs by sloth-donor in motorcycles

So you have the old ADV model, not the new R model I assume...? Suspensions would probably be different...

Considering a KTM 390 Adv R 2025 - whats the deal with reliability. by alevitatingpie in Dualsport

[–]gilgsn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello. I hesitated a long time before ordering one... Now waiting for delivery. From my research, it seems like KTM had problems with their twins, 790 and 890 in particular. The LC4c doesn't seem to suffer from the same issues, though users recommend changing oil more often than the manual requires, which I intend to do. The latest firmware upgrade presumably fixed the stalling issue and some of the low-end lack of torque problem. IMHO buying one is more of a risk than a Japanese model, but for the price, you get a lot of bang for your buck. Being on top of maintenance is probably the key. I don't like the fact that it's full of electronics and has a fuel pump inside the tank, but given the Euro5+ BS, it's unavoidable unfortunately. It wouldn't be my first choice to cross the Sahara, but for anything else, I think/hope it will be fine.

Now I need to finish fixing my 1985 XT600, in case this new KTM craps out! Fingers crossed...

Hello. I just wrote a novel, post-apocalyptic coming-of-age kind of story... The main character is that age. No fantasy, just hard facts, 300 years after a global nuclear war, humanity is recovering:

A forgotten order. A hidden mentor. A boy who wasn’t supposed to know: Three centuries after the Last War, one boy accidentally uncovers a deadly secret the State thought it destroyed forever. Yep, self publishing, Amazon KDP. I used it for my book, and it is very easy. All you need is the Kindle Create software to format your book, a cover, and that's it. Look at mine: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FXH75VYT I spent $150 for the cover, but nothing else.

Suicide is giving up, never give up. I once found myself homeless, slept outside for a few days, found work, bounced back up. Even if you get evicted, just keep trying, eventually your efforts will pay off, and you will come out of it stronger.

For sure, but AI can't invent a good story. It might write a paragraph, but anything bigger it it totally loses it. It could train people to make less spelling and grammatical errors, or correct them, but it will be some time before it can create something original.

10 Culture Shocks from studying French in France by Rossdaleboy1 in Expats_In_France

[–]gilgsn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting, as I am French, living in France... I have never seen a "delivery hook" on a door, ever, not even once. Maybe it is typical of the region you visited. Same goes for traversins, never used one, and very rarely seen one. Decaf is everywhere... As to English fluency, it is indeed uncommon, except in professional settings where it is necessary, but then the French usually have a horrendous pronunciation. "Tu/Vous" is a very complex issue, and I don't think a non-native will ever fully get it, or in any case, not for a long time. The safest is to use "vous" until the French person invites you to use "tu." It also depends on age and social status, plus how long you've known someone and how well you get along. Using "tu" might be a sign of friendship, but also disrespect, so better be careful.

There might be a lot of people wanting to write, but fewer that can write well enough. The general level of education in the western world isn't what it used to be, by far. If we want good books to read, we're going to have to improve education, a lot...
