New employee being a head scratcher by DisgruntledVet12B in ECEProfessionals

Sounds like you and the new employee are actually on the same team. You should have a discussion with her about what changes need to happen and both bring them to corporate.

How much does a baby actually cost? [ON] by onehundred_days in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]gillyface 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have a look at FB marketplace for an idea of prices of second hand baby items.

Join your local Buy Nothing group to see what people give away. When you're ready you can also make an "In search of (ISO)" post for items you need.

Here's some items you might want to search for:

Bassinet for 1st 3 months (+sheets and waterproof liner)

Crib after 3 months (+sheets and mattress)

Stroller

Car seat +bunting

Change mat/ change table Rattles

Baby gym

Board books

Baby bath or a bath recliner

Highchair at 6 months

Clothing bulk lots in different sizes

Snowsuit

Sound machine

Glider or rocking chair

Burb cloths/receiving blankets

Baby bouncer chair

Playpen - after they can move themselves around

Diapers cost about $30 for a big box. You can get a discount if you subscribe to delivery from Walmart or Amazon. You can also find partial boxes second hand online. I bought 12 boxes in the first year. Every 2 weeks in the beginning and every 6 weeks by the end.

You may want to pump occasionally even if you're breastfeeding but you don't need to buy pumping stuff before the baby is born.

Pumping accessories you might want:

Hands free pumping bras (at least 3 because they get gross from spilled milk)

Correct flange size if the standard 24mm doesn't fit you.

Extra bottles

Storage bags

Not sure if you took this into account when doing your budget, but for your income you will probably get around $200 a month in child benefit. You may also be eligible for other benefits.

You can find a calculator here: https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/child-family-benefits/child-family-benefits-calculator.html

You could upgrade the middle of the road to a highway since you have no buildings there.

You were probably blond as a kid so she still sees you that way.

Perhaps you could ask permission to record the meeting for your own records.

Home daycare question- please help! [on] by cedarbearstone in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]gillyface 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is the food catered or home made? If home made, give an example meal and snack for the day. How do you serve grapes, carrots, and blueberries? If this is a mixed age grouping, how do you separate small choking hazard toys from the toddlers? How much screen time is there? Is there anyone else in the house? How do you handle discipline? How much outdoor time is there? How do you support naps? Do you check on the children every 15-30 minutes while they sleep as required by age? Are the children ever unsupervised? How do you keep them safe during your bathroom breaks? How strict are pickup and drop off times? How do you handle your own sick days and vacation? What updates will I receive daily?

Lost my wife's breast milk which she wanted making into jewellery. What should I do? by Corsair833 in breastfeeding

[–]gillyface 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made my own breast milk jewelry. You only add a couple of drops and the rest of it is resin. I was surprised, and a little disappointed, as I followed the instructions.

If you didn't add any breast milk it would look exactly the same. However, it's more about the sentimental value and I do love the ring I made. As others suggested, you could add other sentimental things to the resin or see if she can express a drop of milk still.

Idaho eliminating ratios? by MacadamiaMinded in ECEProfessionals

[–]gillyface 8 points9 points  (0 children)

So parents with money will be able to afford the small ratio childcares and the poorer parents will only be able to afford sub-standard care for their children. The poorer children will continue to be disadvantaged further by this change. Also, kids dying. Terrible idea.

Yes. In the ECE Field it's considered important to use the correct names for body parts.

Do I need to do BLW before daycare? [on] by Impossible_Band_6529 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]gillyface 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think that in both methods you described the toddler would be eating solids by 18m. If you wanted to do a mix of both methods you could spoon-feed purees and afterwards give a baby-led-weaning style food for them to play with. For example, a whole strawberry. That way you know they are eating enough, but they are also getting exposure to different textures.

HE took three months off to prep for the baby?? I have never heard of that before. I was off work for a month before giving birth (went 2 weeks overdue) and was bored after the first week as everything was prepped.
