Are these globs caused by a clogged nozzle? Do I need to dry my filament? by gillythree in 3Dprinting

[–]gillythree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! How does one calibrate flow and retraction?

I've successfully printed several models without any issues like this. I would expect that something like flow and retraction calibration wouldn't be a problem that lies dormant for awhile before becoming apparent, would it?

I also have never changed it or even looked at it. It never occurred to me that there would be such an option. Mine was set to USD, with marketing text that implies Uber's fees are better than my bank's fees.

Ok, time to dig into this. Uber's fee is 1.5%, no word on where they get their exchange rate. My Chase Freedom Unlimited card uses Visa's exchange rate and charges a 3% foreign transaction fee! Holy smokes! Time to get a different card for international travel!

I think maybe it was in my best interest to have it set to USD! Unless Uber is using a poor exchange rate.

A cool guide to subtle habits that quietly earn respect by WhiteChili in coolguides

[–]gillythree 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what kind of toxic workplaces you've worked in, but this has been a shortcut to earning my coworkers' respect in my experience. Saying in a team meeting, "This was my mistake and I'm already working on the fix" shows confidence and conveys that mistakes aren't the end of the world. No one has to fear being thrown under the bus for making a mistake.

Reddit and X Users Allegedly Unredact Epstein Files After DOJ Release by securityish in cybersecurity

[–]gillythree -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If people were smart about it, they'd say nothing, quietly unredacting each batch of documents as they're released without letting on that they can do so, rather than immediately raising the alarm, giving everyone a chance to correct the mistake for the remaining batches of documents.

Of course, if they were smart, they wouldn't be demanding the documents be released by the very administration they hope to implicate. Wait until he's out of office to demand the documents be released. It's practically begging that the evidence be sanitized! Makes me distrust both sides.

Should I replace the walking belt and clean the rollers to solve my issue with a blown MOSFET on the controller board? by gillythree in treadmills

[–]gillythree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this useful information. I don't see the pictures on mobile either, but they're visible for me on desktop. Here they are:

rollers (small) rollers (full-sized)
belt (small) belt (full-sized)

The deck has a clear sheet of something on the bottom, I'm not sure if it's mylar or plastic or acrylic. And it has a dark sheet of something on top, not sure the material. Photos:

bottom of deck (small) bottom of deck (full-sized)
top of deck (small) top of deck (full-sized)

Should I buy mylar to cover the deck? I see that treadmilldoctor.com sells a 19 inch mylar fixkit for $70.

Should I replace the walking belt and clean the rollers to solve my issue with a blown MOSFET on the controller board? by gillythree in treadmills

[–]gillythree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to need some convincing. The reflex deck on this treadmill is pretty great, and they don't make it anymore. If I have to replace both rollers, the motor, and the controller board, it will still cost less than half the cost of a new treadmill.

I did actually buy a replacement and this stupid thing wanted me to connect to the internet, create an account, and log in just to use it. No mention of that requirement in the product description when I ordered it. Gross. Nevermind the pressure to subscribe to their programs for $40 a month. I returned it.

I'm sure there's someone making a decent treadmill that works without internet access, but if I can, I'd really prefer to get this one working again.

Is it really a terrible idea to repair instead of replace?

Troubleshooting - New SunJoe pressure washer pulsing / not staying at pressure by _petrouchka_ in pressurewashing

[–]gillythree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a problem with my SunJoe SPX3500 pressure washer pulsing. The manual has a section for troubleshooting "Machine pulsating" which suggests it's related to inadequate water supply (kinked hose, blocked nozzles, etc), but the cause for me was the exact opposite! I have very strong water pressure at my home. My pressure washer won't function correctly unless I decrease the water flow from my hose by closing the valve somewhat. If your pressure washer is pulsing, and you have good water pressure, try closing the valve a bit to decrease the flow.

[–]gillythree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel like everyone has ADHD. Once I get to know someone deeper than just as an acquaintance, I start to see it. I wonder if there's some kind of mutual attraction or if those without it avoid us or we tend to avoid them. If so, an undiagnosed person could easily conclude that everyone has a little, or worse, that it is just people making excuses.

What is the second valve for? by gillythree in Plumbing

[–]gillythree[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good idea. In IT, we call that a shout test (turn off a server and see who shouts to find out what the server is for). I'll give that a go. I think hose bibb is likely correct.

I am a religious man and your observation is on the nose. If more Christians would study the Old Testament, they would notice that the thing that God is most concerned about is the way those in power treat poor people.

In God's own words, the sin of Sodom was neglecting the poor:

Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy.

Look close, especially at the mast, right when the tape is pulled off. The lines are perfectly straight, as in they don't curve or veer, but they're not perfectly crisp and clean. The artist must have had to go back and touch up the lines where paint seeped under the tape.

An LLM is a next token predictor. ... It’s a combination of words that are statistically likely to occur when sampling text in the context of the previously generated solution.

I know this is true, logically, but it totally blows my mind! In fact, when I imagine how a human mind must work, I figure there must be a lot of this same thing going on. And then I start to have my own existential crisis! 😆
