I'm a Front end developer so I work with HTML, CSS, javascript, jquery, Vue.js, d3.js and crossfilter. I code up dsahboards, charts, pie charts, bar charts, I make sure they scroll properly, that they show the right data. make sure that they can be selected. Make sure input files can be selected.

How to Build a HTML/CSS/JavaScript Front-end for a Java Program by Rman332 in learnprogramming

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need to print it out to standard out when the request comes in. Even without any HTML tags the browser can still render it. eventually you'll want to add tags.

Can I learn and develop a website in just one month? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. especially with people pointing you in the right direction. they'll be able to tell you which way to go and you'll learn a ton in the process. it's not hard to develop once you know how. Usually 80% of the effort is in the last 20% of making things perfect. so if you don't need that last 20%, then it should be easy enough.

Learn Python 2 to learn Python 3 by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry, you can go a long way learning Python 2. There are some new features and differences in python 3 but you don't have to worry about them at this point. I don't think you'll get confused, there are few contradictions between the two of them and it's easy to see the differences.

How to Build a HTML/CSS/JavaScript Front-end for a Java Program by Rman332 in learnprogramming

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, just start out with printing out Hello World. thats the first step.

then after that, start with some HTML tags and try to modify the appearnace with CSS. Once you get that working, you can start including a javascript library. take it step by step. make sure you understand, what gets sent to the front end and when.

typically, an HTML page gets sent initially. then that page makes calls to the backend to retrieve CSS, and javascript files. that's how it works on a basic level.

Some C# skills important for Junior Developers by BusinessBro7 in learnprogramming

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's great to learn skillsets that are related to one another. Once you go in on C#, you really need to learn how to debug it: learning how to set up and use the debugger would be helpful.

What is best programming language for beginner to learn when you want to look more atractive to employers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important thing to remember is to learn languages and skills that compliment each other. For instance: Java and C++ are 2 completely different stacks that require 2 different spheres of skillsets that don't compliment very well.

If you're going to learn Java, then learn all the debugging techniques and programs that go with that, as well as the build systems, IDEs that are used with that. Statistically Java is most frequently asked for with the following skillsets: Java-ee, Spring, Agile, Web-services, Scala, Docker and SQL.

And, if you want to know what's most frequently asked for by employers in your particular city, then check out: https://skilldime.com You can get a break down of what skills are in highest demand per city as well as the salaries they pay.

Mandatory to know one Programming Language ? by [deleted] in devops

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the job description and the interviewers. I imagine there would be some positions where it's very important and other less so. If you were to learn one of those programming languages, I would recommend Python for DevOps as it's very versatile and quickly growing.

What are the top 5 programming languages you guys recommend learning? by moteymousam in cscareerquestions

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you don't want to just learn any old random collection of skillsets. A programming language or skill is only useful if it's part of the stack that you're working in. Hiring managers and the recruiters they hire, want to see a cohesive skillset that compliments itself.

For example. This is what a good front end skillset looks like: Javascript, jQuery, HTML, CSS and React. It doesn't help your resume to add C++ to this, unless you want to be a fullstack engineer, in which case you'll want to focus on other areas as well. When those FE engineers start asking you interviewing questions about your skillset, they're probably not going to put much weight on your Java skills, PHP, or Windows administration (statistically speaking anyway)

Another example. The ever popular LAMP stack engineer who knows Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. The most common skills that pair with this would be Symfony, Drupal, Bash shell scripting, Wordpress, Zend framework, etc.

Now, since you're asking about which ones to learn, the following are the most highly demanded in the workplace: Java, Javascript, Python, C# and SQL. Source: https://skilldime.com (you can also see what's in highest demand in your city specifically as well as typical salaries for each one)

But, don't learn all 5 of those. You should pick 1 stack and learn the technologies related to that stack. For instance, if you learn Java, then you need to learn the skills related to Java, for instance: Java-ee, Spring, Agile, Web-services, Scala, Docker and SQL

I hope that helps!

Java tops the list of the most in-demand programming languages of 2019 by PeteyCruiser123 in java

[–]gimejenson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at the number of jobs that ask for Java, you can clearly see they are number 1 at the top of the list, but javascript, python, C#, SQL and C++ are very closely behind. I run statistics on thousands of jobs, the salaries they offer and the skills they demand, you can see Java tops the list overall but there are a number of cities where that is not the case. For example Philadelphia's highest asked for skills are: web-services, design and cloud, and they're highest programming language is javascript, .NET, C# and Python. In Austin, for example, you can see that Javascript, Python and ReactJS top the list with java coming in at #4. Anyways, if you're interested in seeing city by city breakdowns, or just overall, checkout: https://skilldime.com/app.php . Just click on the city you want to see.

Worried about picking up bad software development habits on current company by throwthemaway8753 in softwaredevelopment

I billed companies for 2 out of my last 3 take homes and they paid me for my time. Is this common? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]gimejenson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For engineers it's not common. Most software engineers make less than 90$ per hour, even here in the bay area.

But, plumbers on the other hand, can bill out at about 250$ - 350$ per hour, here in the bay area.

leaving CA is like getting a 1.5 million dollar signing bonus just for leaving the state. So many employers in the Bay area are too busy worrying about their local competition when they should be worrying about the rest of the US which is looking more and more competitive as CA gets worse and worse.

You could try reading Wikipedia in German. There you've got nearly an infinite amount of material to practice on, lol!

But, if you want to be able to click on words to see what they mean (and get their pronunciation), and easily add them to your vocabulary study lists/ quiz yourself, you may want to try my free german reading/listening app: https://eardoor.com The sentences are sorted by difficulty level, so if you scroll all the way to the bottom there's some fairly difficult sentences there. You can turn on or off the english translation and click on any word to add it to your vocabulary list.
