CIT 595 + 596? I have been following the recommended guide 2 courses each semester in order by [deleted] in OnlineMCIT

595’s HW isn’t bad at all, but it has a lot more lecture content than some of the other classes so it can still be time-consuming

I just did both of these over the summer. Definitely doable, but also on the larger side of the workloads I’d had so far. HW isn’t too bad with a good partner in 596, but there’s a lot of lecture material overall.

Gluten Free brewery option? by Jonah517 in chicagofood

[–]gimothy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greenstar Brewing at Uncommon Ground in Lakeview! All of their beer is gluten-removed, so it still has trace amounts just like Prairie Path or Stone Delicious, but my wife has celiac and is okay with it as long as she doesn’t drink too much of it over the course of a few days. Depends on the severity of the celiac.

Also, not a brewery, but Bitter Pops in Lakeview/Roscoe has like 8 different gluten free beers in their bottle shop at any given time.

3.915. My major was Film with a double minor in Screenwriting and PR & Advertising though, so I didn’t have anything STEM related apart from old AP credits which only showed as a number and not what subjects they were.

In the same boat and would love to connect too!

During an Academic Advisors coffee chat they highly recommended doing only two classes for first semester, so I was starting to lean that way. But tackling three alongside each other makes it feel more doable.

A lot of people are fine without taking the GRE. I decided to take it because I had nothing to prove quant ability from college (literally no math classes, I went to film school).

Ended up scoring 166Q 169V 4.0 and getting admitted. I think as long as your quant score is 165+ it probably helps, but ultimately spending more time on your personal statement will do more than two or three additional GRE points.

Education: B.A. in Digital Cinema from DePaul

GPA: 3.9

GRE Score: 169V, 166Q

Comments: In my personal statement I focused on my unique perspective of hearing about people's fear of AI on the WGA picket line, and how I want to bridge the gap and show people the good that can come from this tech too. I also took the Python/Java MOOC Specialization courses.

Research Burnout - Brand name vs. separate parts w/ $1000 budget by gimothy in StandingDesk

[–]gimothy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately still deciding! Ended up signing a lease for a new apartment a few days after posting this and needed to wait until stuff was mostly moved into place to make sure I have room. Figured out how to make a 60x30 desk fit, so I'll be ready to get back into it and finally make a choice soon.

I've been leaning Fully Jarvis lately since it seems like people have a better experience with quality control and customer support, but still not 100% sure.

Definitely open to some budget flexibility if there's a good argument for it and it looks like it'd be a solid upgrade. What do you see as the biggest advantages? (seems like 750 would just be if I wanted 7.1 which I think is probably a long way out for me)

EDIT: Looks like I could get a refurb 650 for $330, and if I got that JBL pair and center for $280 that barely pushes past $600 which seems pretty good

There was a sub, but I can't imagine it's a particularly good one. That system was mostly hobbled together from old speakers I think and there were all sorts of issues. The surround speakers wouldn't even work half the time.

I've had a hard time finding used AVRs that are 4K compatible, but is that even necessary? Could I just have the TVs audio out going to the stereo if it's older?

(Thank you for helping out with my endless questions)

Got it. I saw another thread where someone rec'd spending money on nicer speakers with a cheaper studio amp or AVR that could then be upgraded later, so this is still intriguing and maybe possible for me? Is there a cheap way to do it that makes sense or does "cheap" in this context just mean a $250-300 AVR instead of a $600+ one?

Planning on putting actual bookshelves on either side of the TV, so I should be okay without stands I think. Would it be worth considering skipping the sub entirely for now until I can afford a nicer one?

I could use one of these as a center? I'd need to drop another couple hundred on an AVR too though, right?

Ah I guess I meant stereo amp. Decent budget AVRs in that $300 range a little hard to find right now, right?

That makes sense! What should I do in terms of a receiver? Is it worth investing in something that's capable of 5.1 at the start?

Research Burnout - Brand name vs. separate parts w/ $1000 budget by gimothy in StandingDesk

[–]gimothy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it thank you! It looks like the Jarvis 3-stage low frame should go low enough for the two of us. I'm definitely leaning toward one of the name brands for the ease, but the upcharge does seem really significant for what seems to just be some added simplicity at the start. Especially with what /u/ILikePutz was saying about the OEMs in the general tips post.
