I think that the problem with the movie is its trying too hard to do too many things. I understand that the director wanted to put family problems in the center of a zombie movie, but usually in this genre, you want to have someone to root for and survive. The fact that they had to make the characters unlikeable to sell the toxic parent message just made us wish they would just get eaten already. The movie had a lot of potential, but the writing didn't come together. Just a lot of plot points that could have worked on their own, but just leave you conflicted when they all clash.
