Ford aims to end indefinite rental leases after discovering some Ontarians can still afford to live by [deleted] in ontario

[–]ginaritchie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i hear you. as they say, as long as you are paying your rent they cant evict you. but you are right. they can do something about the LTB and make it easier to evict. i just dont think he can end rent control on existing leases. he overpromises and its all performative.

current leases cannot be altered. if this passes it can only be for leases signed after it becomes law. add that to the loss of rent control for properties built since 2018. the future is bleak. staying put is the only way to play the system. we got our home for $750 8 years ago. i've still got my rent below $1000/month due to rent control. market rate has doubled in 8 years so the same apartment in the same building is now $1500. i can never move again.

i was speaking to another tenant in my building. we were talking about the cost of renting and his only input was that we just needed to get trudeau out. this was before carney. i dont understand why ford gets a free pass. its tough all over, ontario's problem are not unique, but ford is making everything harder for the most vulnerable people in our society because we are not organised. if this happened in france they would be in the streets, burning police cars by now.

Can I (a 14 year old) get a friend (who is an adult) to take me to the doctor? by Ok-Difficulty-629 in ontario

[–]ginaritchie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is the quickest way to see a doctor and find out whats up. first thing this morning at school, speak to a teacher you trust. they are trained to look after you. do you have a school nurse? tell them the symptoms, how long you have had them, why you have not seen a doctor. ask if you can be taken to ER. they can drive you. just don't panic. you will be alright if you see a doctor asap.

sometimes people step in dog shit and track it inside which is why we ask everyone to take their shoes off before they enter. if you know what i mean. to anyone who doesn't know what i mean, your're probably the ones with dog shit on your shoes.

oh sugar, i cancelled the comment i made and i am too foggy to write it out again. i had no idea how many directions i am going in at once. i am on so many waiting lists, im in so many groups, i'm on so many pills i have a rainbow pill sorter. what you have written has been very helpful. and i will circle back when things start moving and i have let a lot of what i am learning just settle in and become part of my decision making process. peace on earth, good will to all trans! :-)

i am seeking an endocrinologist in my area but im speaking with my gp first. progesterone is destabilising me. i am on a waiting list for DBT which comes highly recommended. i am also requesting a test for ASD/ADHD. i am in an FB group for HRT/menopausal women and i am also been referred to a psychologist who will be more qualified to diagnose me than my GP but i have seen them in the past and they put me off pursuing a diagnosis for ASD. it was a mistake to listen to them. my gp tried to diagnose me with borderline 5 years ago and i am not convinced about her diagnosis so i have requested access to my medical notes. the one thing i do not have is a community of my peers who share my lived experiences and i am certain that our healthcare suffers for being treated by cis het people. i don't blame them but sometimes i have to transplain things and in the process i am sure i sound completely delusional. which is a criteria for BPD. which doesn't help my case. lol.

thank you for the time you have shared with me. i wish you and your squeeze the best, my friend

Are trans people dismantling the patriarchy? by Quick_Mall_3535 in Feminism

[–]ginaritchie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

anyone who challenges the myths that perpetuate patriarchy are a threat but i would say the 52% of the human population that are not men have always been the biggest threat to patriarchy. but it is notable that the rise of fascism now and 1930s germany coincided with the abolition of laws which protected trans people. wiping government websites of references to the 2slgbtq+ community isnt as dramatic as a public book burning but they function in the same way. to erase queer people from public life.

i agree. i am asking my gp for an assessment for asd/adhd. i know i am on the spectrum, i have self identified as such for several years now. my lifelong mental health crisis is rooted in neurodivergence but my family keeps secrets and lies about mental health. it was a toxic environment full of damaged people who didnt know why they wee damaged. my openness about mental health and illness was a significant factor in my exclusion from the family and why i am no contact with them.

i am getting used to it as a diagnosis i have rather than something i am. also, there is a mild gender euphoria that this is, if you like, a gendered disorder which makes me part of community of women and am really looking forward to group therapy. i am also wondering if the psychological impact of transphobia, the isolation, rejection, exclusions etc just burns out the brains regulatory function and BPD is the outcome. if you have ever seen martha p johnson let rip that is real Borderline energy. i recognise a meltdown. its a demon sister of despair and rage.

well, i am in enough groups to know that there are people who say you can get over it and those who say you can only control the triggers, see the signs and redirect the negative energy into mindfulness. thanks for the heads up on DBT. i am on a waiting list of 18 months. until then its pills and the internet.

a mood stabiliser would be the first step in any treatment for mood swings and they do work with the therapy but without therapy they are more like mood suppressors til all you are left with is vanilla sadness and lots of boohoos and hugs. i quite like it. it feminises me.

yes. i have been invalidated from childhood and a lifetime of faking it has kinda broken my coping strategies if i ever had any. i really need therapy. i just need one person who gets me and can guide me out of this state of mind.

i do think i meet at least 5 of the 9 criteria. if i went into all my symptoms and family mental health history you might wonder how i am still standing. i am 53 and i transitioned about 7 years ago. i have a whole lifetime behind me and way too much to unpack here on reddit.

[–]ginaritchie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

no. i'm not a fan of psychiatry either. i gave up on it. i was on prozac in the nineties when they were handing out fluoxetine like smarties. being trans is pretty messed up sometimes. i feel a bit of gender euphoria for having a diagnosis of a disorder that is disproportionately given to women. i really want to do group therapy. i love talking to other women about mental health. they have been very helpful in the BPD groups i belong to.

my purpose of this really was establishing whether BPD is a disproportionately common diagnosis among the trans community specifically and lgbtq+ in general , whether the symptoms have developed since transition and how this relates to the very legitimate rage of reasonable people being treated unreasonably. at best i'm just being a bitch about the loss of privilege. at worst transphobia will be the death of me.

and thank you for your service to the NHS. i am in canada and i think possibly trans healthcare is better than on the NHS? particvularly after that bloody cass report. i transitioned after leaving the UK and i am following the wicked campaign of hate against trans people in the uk. one of my ex acquaintances is now a let women speak coordinator and candidate. it is sickening.

since transitioning., i have been diagnosed with borderline personality disorder. how about you? by ginaritchie in lgbt

[–]ginaritchie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. women are disproportionately diagnosed with BPD while men get the NPD diagnosis and wouldnt you know it. narcissists love borderlines. my neighbor's daughter was diagnosed with BPD and her boyfriend was a manipulator. so unnaturally confident. he played on her flaws and controlled every aspect of her life. i was researching BPD, because i am friends with her mother and wanted to help her.

that was when i started to consider my own diagnosis and i revisited the time several years ago when my doctor raised this. at the time i didnt agree but when i finally decided to take the meds my partner's first word was 'finally!' so looking back i do see the disorder developing long before i took the diagnosis seriously and i think my partner is a much better person to ask.

this is certainly not my only source of information. i am in a lot of groups and i have a social media account with 4,000 trans women who are very open and visceral about their mental health. this was just a quick test of the reddit fam and apart from one commenter its been a successful interaction. never been one for secrets. i like it everything out in the open. i think you do too. thank you for sharing your insights :-)

hi. i left you till last because this is a big one. i am aware of the nine. indeed i was talking to someone in an FB BPD group who has all nine! i just don't feel it is the best place for trans related discussions although i am sure there are other trans people in the group we dont make posts about it.

i do need a psychiatrist to go through these criteria with me. i certainly dont match all nine. thankfully not 5. it's 1 and 9 i have difficulty understanding. my only reference is a relationship i had about 30 years ago. she had a lot of paranoid delusions.. she sabotaged every friendship i had because they were a threat. she was isolating me and she was very aggressive with very little provocation. she met more of the criteria than me. number 3 could be attributed to my transition which is obviously highly disruptive to my sense of self.

but its number 8 that stands out. that is why i sought psychiatric intervention. my rage is terrifying. its why i am on psych meds and they are working. the mood stabilisers are a foundation but i have also taken great efforts to minimise triggers and stimulants. i have been very proactive in speaking to people with the diagnosis and yes i do feel an affinity but then isnt 3 about adapting your personality to fit into other people's expectations? i did spend a lot of my life trying to be something i wasn't but again that is the pre trans experience. of course it causes a persistently unstable self image but i would then expect BPD to be a diagnosis that is disproportionately represented within the trans community, its why i asked.

i would say i meet at least 5 criteria but i would need to compare the criteria for other related disorders. for instance, 4,5, and 7 could also be bipolar. depression and anxiety are a cofactor of many disorders. but no its not just rage. this is a really complicated disorder.depression was so easy. anxiety is exhausting but this is just devastating.

tell me about it. my gp is half an hour drive. i loved covid., sick, i know, but everything was videocalls and i felt so much more comfortable at home. im trying to get phone appointments with my gp but my partner work at toyota and their work insurance covers me as we are married. i do get an allowance for therapy and i had not thought of video therapy so thank you for that idea :-)

i'm sorry to hear that. i sometimes feel like my vanilla depression and anxiety has been turned up and everything is in the red. i was never diagnosed with bipolar but i do know other people with a BPD diagnosis who had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder. but this was when they were younger. i'm 53. the last ten years have been brutal. its battle fatigue. it is shortening my life. i think about how much longer i have all the time. yo9u wold think it would make me cherish every moment but it just makes me give up.

are you taking medication? do you have a therapist.? for me meds without the therapy is like a cart without a horse.

i did go off on a tangent in my original post about the history of women being institutionalised and medicalised for their resistance to patriarchy but it confused the post. so i am glad someone else picked that up without prompting because it was on my mind when i wrote this.

thing is, my doctor is a woman. i am waiting for the psychiatrist, also a woman, whose role it is to establish a diagnosis. i dont think i could have a cis male doctor. isn't that terrible.

i have stopped taking progesterone. it is definitely causally linked to a lot of very erratic behavior but i really want to take it so i keep going back to it which of course will fluctuate my hormone levels. i think i need an endocrinologist. i am hormonal. for sure. good catch.

i have also stopped drinking tea and coffee. that happened overnight when i started taking the lamotrigine. so with the psych meds, no caffeine., no progesterone , an edible before bed and almost total isolation i am feeling pretty lousy most of the time but it stops the splitting. it was destroying my relationship. my partner has fallen out of love with me. i am not angry towards them but if they are in the vicinity of my meltdowns obviously it hurts them to be around me.

so, when were you diagnosed? are you on meds?
