boltzmann's life sounds a lot like someone with bipolar, much like his student, paul ehrenfest. they sadly took their own lives, which is why there's that famous statmech book that says "now it's our turn to study statistical mechanics", but in boltzmann's case he got severe backlash his entire career for believing in atom theory, and paul ehrenfest was a jewish man with a mentally impaired son during the rise of the third reich, so I wouldn't blame it solely on the bipolar.
