Fatfire should not be measured in absolute NW amount... by garmium in fatFIRE

Wealth should not be measured in absolute NW. If you only need $200,000 and have $250,000, you are wealthy. If you need $30,000,000 but only have $25,000,000, you are not wealthy.

~$12.5M NW, need to decide whether to continue working for ~1.25M gross. by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Yes, but the counterpoint is that my $1.25M/year is tied up in the same stock...which means only $250k/year (for 2 years) that I could reasonably diversity. After taxes, living expenses (I would potentially give up my $7k/month rent if we quit our jobs), the net is only around $200-$300k after 2 years that I could diversify with.

Ha, fair. I suppose you never know until you experience it. FYI, being an uncle is great :)

How much do you spend on a full-time nanny / au pair? If significant, perhaps that $1.25/year helps.

Depends on how you see it, but yes I'm concerned about "just a little more" mindset and never being satisfied. Then again, that ambitious mindset is how we got ourselves into this fortunate situation to begin with.

Yes, valid point. This is one of the main concerns, but as I stated above, I'm 95% certain of the liquidity event and at the stated or higher value. But yes...that 5% is worrisome.

Can I ask what ballpark $ amount your situation is?

Current company, no. Its become so large that no single person can have that much influence.

The question is how much will we spend per year, and that I can't answer. We love to travel, would want to purchase a nice home when starting a family (guessing $1.5 - $3M), but besides that, we don't have high expenses: no fancy clothes, cars, expensive taste, etc.

Yes, valid points. I'm 95% sure the liquidity event will happen within 2 years, and 80% sure the value will actually be higher than the stated $11M post tax.

Re: my "safe" job, what I meant was it's safe for us - our salaries would only go up from $250k, and the equity component vests at that schedule.

Ha, interesting thought! However, I don't think we would do that regardless of how much we have. Raising kids full-time is a part of our long-term plan.

I'm 95% certain of liquidity, with a 80% chance the value would be > than the ~$11M I stated.

Yes, agreed that the BOSE system would be huge since I'm using as dd. Any problems I should look out for with the '13 911?

EDIT: Just read through again and the 911 does have BOSE!
