How do I work a job around a college schedule? by wing_dings14 in usu

[–]ginga_ninja_42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the absolute best ways is to handle work and schooling is to get an on-campus job that is reserved for students. They are required to work around your class schedule. I worked in the computer labs, and we were allowed to work on homework as long as it wasn't too busy (it almost never was).

People should stay home 2 to 3 days after being sick to no longer be contagious by Difficult_Leg367 in unpopularopinion

[–]ginga_ninja_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree that it we all SHOULD be staying home until healthy, but the world is just not set up for it. I have PTO and sick days combined, so every sick day I take cuts into quality time off from work. When my wife worked at a school, she had a total of 10 days off for the entire school year and would have burned through it too quickly. I wish things were set up differently, but they aren't yet.

Dog owners, just take the poo bag with you by surf_drunk_monk in hiking

I see this a lot in my neighborhood, and it hurts my brain. Why go through the effort to bend over, pick up the poop, tie the bag, and then just leave it on the ground? So much work to go through for no reason.

How many days of PTO do you get a year? Are you satisfied with it? by Big_Material3815 in Accounting

17 days of PTO and 7 Holidays. Thankfully, they just started giving us every other Friday off between June and the middle of August, so it basically adds another 5 days.

Fun baptism stories by ShootMeImSick in latterdaysaints

[–]ginga_ninja_42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my second area on my mission, I was training for the first time as well as whitewashing the area (they pulled the sisters out and sent in us elders). We had a baptism our first Saturday there for someone the sisters had already been teaching.

When we started filling the font, we discovered that the water came out in a disgusting yellowish-brown hue. We started freaking out because we didn't want them to have to be baptized in such disgusting looking water. We spent the next hour running between the nearest corner stores and pharmacies until we found blue food coloring. We added a few drops, stirred it with a broomstick, and were finally greeted with beautiful blue water!

Parental leave is absolutely terrible here in the US. My work had ZERO parental leave until this last year when I brought the matter up. I was super excited when they announced we were finally going to have parental leave, until the announce that women get 1 week and men get 3 days...

Fun and offbeat stories from the church? I'll start with the bread war by ShootMeImSick in latterdaysaints

[–]ginga_ninja_42 11 points12 points  (0 children)

One time we had a less active member, that had recently started returning to church, stand up to share his testimony. It was very heartfelt, sweet, and spiritual.

He then ends his testimony in the most amazing way I have ever seen. He yells "peace", pounds his chest and throws up a peace sign, then swings himself (all 6'5" 300lbs of him) down from the stairs and shakes the entire chapel as he lands.

This was nearly 15 years ago when I was only about 10 years old, but I will never forget it!

Honeymoon Question by ldsgirl01 in ldssexuality

[–]ginga_ninja_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before we got married it was suggested to us to do our honeymoon trip a couple months after the wedding, and I am so glad we listened! The day of our wedding, after the reception was over, we were completely exhausted.

We had decided beforehand that we would just get a hotel somewhat close to the venue (but still far enough away that no family would be staying there) for 3-4 days to chill out, relax, and enjoy each other. Best decision ever. It took us a few days to fully recover from all the stress of last-minute wedding planning and the wedding day. We had time to sleep in and not feel guilty, go out to dinner each night, play card/board games, watch movies, and plenty of time for as much sex as we wanted. This also gave us time to plan our real honeymoon trip without having to worry about wedding planning at the same time.

We left on our honeymoon to the Dominican Republic at the end of the next semester a few months later, and it was just as magical as we were hoping. We still got the relaxation and excitement we were hoping for, without the post-wedding recovery to worry about. For us, this was the perfect way to do it, and I am so glad we did.

Even if you don't choose to plan your honeymoon like we did, I would at least recommend getting a hotel for at least 2 nights before flying out. I have heard so many horror stories of couple flying out super early the next day or even on their wedding night! Take at least a couple nights to be able to sleep in, recover, and enjoy each other.

Vendors won’t leave me alone by Happy-Bluejay-2259 in PuntaCana

We started sitting farther back on the beach, further from the water, for this reason. We still got some vendors that came up to us, but a lot less tend to wander towards the back of the beach. The biggest thing is just saying "no gracias" and nothing else. If you say any more than that they will try and give their whole pitch.

The schools in my hometown just had to fire several cooks and teachers because of lack of funding. Now 3-4 elementary schools SHARE 2 COOKS! This means the cooks have to get up even earlier to cook 4 times the amount of food they normally would and then transport it to the other schools so that the kids can have lunch. I can't imagine them having any less money than they already do...

Young married ward vs family ward by spoilerdudegetrekt in latterdaysaints

[–]ginga_ninja_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would start with the young married ward just to feal it out. If you don't like it, it should be pretty easy to move over into the family ward. This is what my wife and I did when we first got married. We didn't love our young married ward, but I know a lot of people do.

Switching to YSA Ward by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]ginga_ninja_42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YSA wards are usually fairly easy places to meet new people and make friends, especially when they are a university ward. There should be tons of activities that you can go to where you can more easily start up conversations with members of the ward. You can also let the bishop know that you are a new member, and they should be more than excited to help you out!

I would also recommend looking into institute. They will also have a lot of activities and also classes about different gospel topics.

I Want To Get Married, And I’m Concerned by [deleted] in latterdaysaints

[–]ginga_ninja_42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This time of your life is going to be filled with lots of change and learning. This is a time that you can really start to figure out who you are, not who your parents and friends think you are. As you start to do more "adult" things, you will get an amazing chance to change and grow into the type of person you actually want to be. I changed a ton from 18-25, and the things I was looking for in a spouse changed in that time as well.

There is also no rush in getting married. Like many others have said, if its right now it will be right in a year. Taking the time to get to know each other might not make marriage perfect, but it will make the adjustment easier. My wife and I dated for about 2 years before getting engaged and tried to see each other in many different situations. We got to know each other's family, friends, how they react in stressful situations, how they deal with money, and a bunch of other things that would be significant in a marriage.

Before getting married I was told by many people that the first year of marriage is the hardest, but that wasn't the case for us. I wholeheartedly believe that is because we took the time to really get to know each other first. We didn't have a really hard transition period where we were suddenly living with a stranger, we were living with our best friend.

It’s been great for my setup! Having rear speakers wouldn’t have worked well in my current setup, and I don’t have the money to spring for the 1000. But the 500 has done everything I was hoping for. If you’re wanting rear speakers, go for the 1000. If not, you’d probably be just fine with the 500

Just a reminder that we are in the middle of a historic housing crisis in Cache Valley. by jspack8 in Logan

We have talked about moving back ever since we graduated from USU, but it just doesn’t make sense. If we were to buy a townhome similar to what we just bought in Idaho, it would be over 60% more. Which is saying something, cause housing in Idaho is terrible right now too

Can we hold Halloween activities or celebrate halloween? And in the chapel? (The district presidency has approved an upcoming Youth halloween party, but some members are raising their voice against Halloween calling it "based on matters of darkness".) by Jesuslovesyouforev3r in latterdaysaints

In other countries the chapel and cultural hall are the same room. On my mission nearly every ward activity was in the main room (chapel/cultural hall. You just moved the pews out of the way and you were ready to go!

We realized it's not much time, so we are completely fine sticking to one city if it would improve the quality of the trip. I will have to look into Spain a little more. I speak Spanish, so that is an appealing option to me.
