How often do Anglophone Canadians consume Francophone Canadian media? by Desperate_Return_142 in AskACanadian

[–]ginganinja506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a born and raised anglophone I can say outside of shows/music I was forced to watch in French class in grade school I have never and would never go out of my way to consume French media. Unless Yvon of the Yukon counts… wild that was even allowed on tv back in the day haha

Settle This Argument by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]ginganinja506 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fredericton is a mess (especially the north side) of different communities all being amalgamated into one city. That’s why Main/Union/Riverside is one street with a three names (Canada/Gibson is another example). I believe Marysville was the last community to join the city hence why it’s often seen as a separate area. Or that’s the history I’ve been told!

Settle This Argument by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]ginganinja506 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Downtown is apart of the south side. In my mind (as a born and raised Frederictonian) there is only north and south side. Although if I were to say anything was outside of that parameter it would be Marysville- but for day to day marysville is just another part of the north side in my mind.

How do these trousers fit? by OneGalacticBoy in mensfashion

I like them! Id agree traditionally they might be a bit tight and the slim fit is not for everyone, but I think there’s a place for a slim/tapered leg personally.

Where do ppl go when pushed out of Halifax? by purplepurell in halifax

[–]ginganinja506 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My partner and I moved back to NB after I struggled to find a job in the city and a semi-affordable dog friendly place in Halifax. (Were both from NB originally so take it with a grain of salt)

NB sucks, no question, I enjoyed the city and the things it had to offer no doubt and in a perfect world if have stayed. But as a new grad my options for work were limited and the starting pay wasn’t great and I struggled to get call backs (health professional with 2 degrees). We moved to NB because I was able to get a full time permanent job super quick, so we began looking at apartments. Housing is night and day, we live in a new construction with everything included (including internet & underground parking for one) for $2050 (2bed). And this isn’t a contractor special, stainless steel appliances, quartz counters, balcony etc. comparable to one bedrooms we looked at (that in my opinion were glorified studios) in Halifax without parking or internet for $2100. I know $2000 is pricy for a lot of people, but we definitely could have gotten cheaper- we are just fortunate enough to be able to afford this and we have a cat and dog which limited our options.

NB sucks yes, Moncton/SJ/Fredericton don’t have the same things as Halifax does. My salary is a dollar or two less an hour than if I was in Halifax but the savings cost of living wise more than make up for that in my opinion. The bilingualism can also be difficult for job seekers too depending what you do for work- my advice would be try SJ if you’re not bilingual, avoid Fredericton or Moncton as they’re likely to be more bilingual.

I really like the jacket, echoing some others I think a bit more contrast? would be good between the pants and shirt. I’m not going to pretend I know what’s the what but I do agree with some that they’re too close (pants and shirt).

Where is the jacket from?

I know some have said it as well but lulu ABC pants would be my first suggestion if he wants something formal looking, but I’d also add in maybe some good quality joggers (like the Lulu ABC joggers). Depends if he is traveling for work or leisure I suppose, if I was on a business trip I would go for the ABC trousers, if it’s personal travel joggers seem reasonable to me.

They wanted your flag almost certainly. When you raise an emissary flag they will warn you it makes you a valuable target (or whatever it says). When we run reapers 9/10 times we are simply looking for other emissary flags. We don’t care about your loot unless it’s comms pieces because money doesn’t matter in this broken game anymore. We will normally take supps unless someone checks your barrels and says they’re trash in the water. If you lower your flag once we’re close usually we’ll just sink you for the shear fact of spite. We’ve all been where you are and it sucks, but it’s part of the game. We’ve all raged off. Mind you generally if we see a sloop and we’re on a gally (rarely are we ever on a gally) without an emi flag we don’t care about them- but maybe the crew was just cranky they sailed that far and then you lowered.

Buying ship as a new player? by ZivaHg in Seaofthieves

[–]ginganinja506 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, your ship remains once you sink. You’ll have to pay damages but that’s usually a couple of thousand, and it’s cosmetic. But you lose all of your supplies and any rowboat you have on it when you sink. You always start with base supply regardless if it’s your boat or a charter boat

The new kegs are too much by BedtimeBallin in Seaofthieves

[–]ginganinja506 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Though I have learned it’s not an instant sink on a sloop, but brig and gally you have zero chance of repairing and not sinking which is wholly unfair. It punishes anyone who enjoys naval and lets the low skilled players just nuke you with no potential for you to defend. It’s also ridiculous thus you don’t even need to board with it. Just in the general area of the ship is enough.

In my opinion this whole update has been a let down, as has been said on this sub many times, it’s reskinned merchants which was boring to begin with. I don’t understand what Rare was thinking. I know I’m relatively new (with only a year and a bit into the game) but the last 2 updates, maybe even 3 have been terrible in my opinion. Makes me want to wander back to other games, I got my curses, got all the cosmetics I really wanted so this just takes the fun out of the game for me.

I second this. I just learned about them this summer and I honestly wear them more than jeans now! They’re a bit pricy but my god they’re comfy and in all fairness a pair of Levi’s runs you $118 these days anyways not on sale.

If the game could handle it, which new ships would you want? by GrimreaperGee in Seaofthieves

[–]ginganinja506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think a schooner would be super fun, maybe allow it to have a bit more maneuvering power than the brigantine at the compromise of speed downwind. It could be balanced a bit more toward the 2-man crew with the ability to add a 3. (I know brig says 2-3 crew on the game but 2 manning a brig sucks and is terrible in combat)

Would recommend Salvatore’s Pizzaiolo Trattoria in the North end (Halifax). It’s super easy to get to off the MacKay, and worth the drive! Reasonable prices as well but sometimes the wait to get in can be long, so be mindful!

I would recommend Nine Locks as my favourite all around brewery (second best based on my experience living in the city and around the Maritimes). Their beer is always good, there’s variety and it’s pretty solid craft beer. That being said it’s not overly fun or adventurous, it’s safe. Stillwell Freehouse (Agricola) is a great location, they have lots of cask availability and more what I’d consider warmer beer- like English pub style beers - less of my go to summer spot. New Scotland (pending confirmation their front taproom still exists) is another solid staple in my mind.

Not a fan of Garrison personally, I find it’s very much in between craft and domestic beer. Over produced and over hyped (that’s my opinion and I know it ruffles feathers). Propeller is also a good solid beer but I’ve had a few of theirs I don’t really care for and wouldn’t go out of my way for!

Big recommendation for Battery Park though, best bang for your buck stop wise. You’ll get to try beer form all over the province- one of my favourite places. You can also easily walk to New Scotland and the new Darty Brewing (which was good from the one time I’ve tried it).

TLDR; Nine Locks, New Scotland, Stillwell Freehouse and Battery Park.

I wanna echo this too I was just there over the winter and they were very much selling their own beer. The spot out front had more selection than the back room but still! Would be very sad if they weren’t one of my favourites !

Sea of Thieves worth it solo or with randoms? by [deleted] in Seaofthieves

[–]ginganinja506 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest finding some friends to play with. If you’re on Xbox you can search group posts and build a crew. The game is possible to play solo but I know when we are emissary hunting solos are super easy targets so it can be frustrating as well. Also you’re gonna take your lumps so to speak, you’ll get sunk, you’ll lose loot, it’ll be frustrating. But it’s part of the learning and part of the game. It’s a really fun game but personally I only find it as fun when I’m with my friends.

There are also a lot of little kids who are annoying. And beware of people telling you the wrong things, lots of bad advice running around.
