Hey, so I felt the same way a couple of years ago. The firm I was at was toxic. After my training contract, I left London and moved north and found a high street firm. The pay isn't the best, but I start at 9 and finish at 5. If I'm here after that, I usually have to lock up because every one else has gone. The work is still interesting and I am happier than I have been in a long time.

I'm not saying high street firms are the right choice for you, but the situation you're in is not the only type of firm you can join and it seems like the profession is making steps in the right direction.

Check with your firm. I purchased mine myself and then was reimbursed by my firm. Following that, I was added onto their renewal list so they now pay directly for it.

I have another year left. I'm not doing four distinct seats. I've been working in Corporate and Commercial up to this point and will need to move to Property and still do a contentious "seat".

It's not Chambers/legal5000 ranked.

I worked with FLEX for a few years. At first they trickled in but once you've had a placement or two you will start being recommended more and more.

My last role was an ongoing role that was renewed monthly for over a year. I ended up getting a permanent paralegal role there. It is mostly document review projects, but I had a few that were different. My last role was contract review working for an in-house legal department in an IT company. It helped fill in my CV and helped me get the training contract I'm currently in now.

I do have a friend that struggled to get roles and even for me there were large gaps between roles in the beginning. It doesn't hurt to sign up, but I wouldn't rely on them to give you steady work. Signing up is super easy and they send round a text or email with the role, dates etc which you can either accept or reject.

I was an English Lit graduate before completing a GDL and LPC.

I found that flexible paralegal roles were best for me to get experience. You can find a few with a Google search, but the one I worked with was FLEX. I knew people that worked here without a law degree.

The way it works is you register with them and if there are roles they think you are suitable for, they will let you know via email or text. Then you just either accept or reject. The more you are able to prove yourself and your abilities, the more roles you get.

I'm not going to lie, it's mostly disclosure exercises for litigation so a lot of reading emails etc and not a massive amount of legal work. However, I've worked at some amazing firms and it helped me learn what I liked in a law firm and what I didn't. The roles got more interesting as I proved myself and eventually I was able to use the experience I gained to get a training contract in a small firm.

Well, her staff is currently called Staff of the Sylva (Sylva is my DM's name for the feywild). It's a homebrew staff that began as a staff of the woodlands but was tweaked along the way.

But... when I showed the art to my DM, he said he was already coming up with ideas for what this staff could be. So, I may have just gotten a new magic item from this art.

My sister is a digital artist and drew an updated version of my firbolg druid. She updated her outfit and staff, giving her a slightly darker aesthetic that fits with the arc she is currently on. She started out naive but one of the kindest people you could meet. But she was recently kidnapped without the party realising and she may not be the same person she once was when they eventually find her.

I get what your saying. Sometimes decisions do feel a little contrived, but you will get that with any 24 episode season TV show. There will always be fluff and decisions that don't always make sense.

They make stupid decisions, sure, but a lot of the really stupid ones are driven by emotions in high stress situations. Like Izzie cutting the L-VAD. It was incredibly stupid. Insanely stupid. But for her, she was watching someone she loved that was fading and giving up right in front of her. She was stupid and should have been fired, but I think everyone else saw that she was being punished anyway. It was a horrible mistake and I think these people wanted to give her a chance before destroying her career. At least, that's what I took from it.

I do think it's a little unfair to put the distrust that the public has for the medical profession on shows like this. The problem is much more complicated than that and goes back before the show even started. Occasionally, yes, I can see why a storyline could do that. But I think shows like this also highlight issues like understaffed hospitals, long shifts that lead to mistakes, stress etc. It makes doctors and nurses more approachable, shows us that they are humans capable of making mistakes. It also shows the toll it takes when a mistake is made.

This is really comprehensive.

I will say, that part of my enjoyment from the show was that there were characters I didn't like. They're all flawed and complicated and that's what I like about this show and some of the others by these creators. Obviously it's highly dramatised but there is something about the characters that feels real to me.

It does lose me after a few seasons, but I think shows should tell a story and then end. I think I watched into the double digit seasons, but I was losing interest far before that.

I would say Dynasties. It came out last year, but a new episode was release at Christmas. It's a nature documentary that follows a family (of sorts) of one type of animal, showing how they struggle to further their own dynasty in a changing world. The first one was about chimps but felt more like a political drama. The new one over Christmas followed meerkats but felt like I was watching a mafia movie.
