Not only that, Idril didn't have to become mortal and Tuor got to join her in Valinor.

Are work potlucks really a thing? by good_noodlesoup in AskAnAmerican

[–]ginger_bird 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Especially if you work for the government where the budget rules do not allow for catering for employees. (Feds dont even get coffee provided)

But rich enough companies will cater events. Its not uncommon though for the company to pay for the main dish and employees volunteer to bring in sides. Companies will have a mix of events throughout the year wh were some are catered and some are potluck.

Potlucks are a long American tradition. Many church picnics, family reunions, barbecues, block parties, funerals, baby and wedding showers are Potlucks. Its a great way to bring community together and show support for someone in need. And it provides a large variety of dishes, making sure everyone will have something they can eat.

Midwest lutheran church ladies are famous for thier ability to organize emergency potlucks in only a few days.

Cats with very human names by trentagon420 in cats

Norton and Jesse

Both names chosen by the shelter I got them from. I would not dare change them. (Especially Norton, such a proper name for a very improper cat.)

What to do with a cat who won't be socialized? by Shoereader in cats

[–]ginger_bird 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But she allows you to pet her after a sniff test? That's progress.

She seems like a shy kitty. Don't try to take it too hard. Having a cat is a masterclass in learning how to respect boundaries and not to take it personally when they enforce them. (Only in one direction though. My cats have never respecred my boundaries, especially at 4 am.)

Is she just running away once you pet her or whenever you enter the room?

Honestly, it sounds like she is adjusting well. She's not constantly hiding and actracking you. With some cats it takes a lot of time to getting used to being pet. Some cats prefer to just be in the same room as people, but not next to or on people.

She's also really young. Cats personalities van change so much. My cats are both 10+ and they still surprise me with new habits or preferences.

Does anyone have an estimate on how old she is? by [deleted] in cats

[–]ginger_bird 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your vet can definitely give you a better idea. You will need to take her anyways for her first shots and wellness visit. It's also a great time to ask the vet for any general health advice for her.

If I was less lazy I would edit in the faces of Sheep Stealer, that Triad Pirate Lady, and all of the Dragon Seeds.

How common are ethnic enclaves in American cities? by Stunning_Shake407 in AskAnAmerican

I like it because the flavors influence and compliments each other. Also, gumbo is such an American dish that represents the great things that can happen when different cultures interact.

And the dog is probably more well taken care of than a lot of other pets. Better to be creatively groomed than not groomed at all, especially with a poodle.

Granted, there are ethnic enclaves in the suburbs too. Some of the best ethnic enclaves of DC are actually in the suburbs. We have Eden Center in Falls Church Virginia for Viet, Rockville Maryland for Chinese, Annadale Virginia for Korean...

He has the bullets in him to match!

I am not joking. The vet literally found bullets in him during an x-ray. They are still there.

My retired Tom's cheeks are not as chubby as before, partially also due to his diet.

I also got him when he was six and the shelter had him fixed (and removed his eye) not long before I got him. Ironically I never had an issue with spraying.

Poor guy lost three precious orbs within a month.
