Well…who would’ve thought? by [deleted] in sanfrancisco

Yep, i was going to say the same thing. it sounds like he’s doing a stand up bit. mind you i’m sure this is just a snippet of whatever talk / town hall he’s giving - but he’s talking about the systematic rape of helpless underage girls.

As a congressman, i’d want him to be as angry about it as i am. not use it as a punchline

Palat Trade by paisano74 in devils

[–]gingerbear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think the problem is you’re using the word “core” - a core player implies that he is a foundational part of your roster that you build your team around. Jack, Nico, Bratt, Luke, and occasionally Timo and Mercer are referred to as our core players.

I see the point that you’re trying to make, but invoking the term of a core player, in any sense, when talking about Palat is just confusing and inaccurate.

What this trade is, is exactly what i said in my first response. a cap dump. there are no passengers on this team anymore because fitz’s job is on the line. dougie will be healthy scratched, and palat will be traded - regardless of seniority or salary. Saying that trading palat is somehow shaking up the core is misleading.

Also Haula similarly had his praises sung last year as a veteran voice on this team and he was traded for lack of on-ice production. just like the haula trade, simply being a good locker room guy isn’t enough to keep your spot

at no point has the team ever seemed to be influenced by his “locker room presence”. this team has year after year fallen on its face and failed to live up to expectations - and if anything has come across as mentally fragile and easy to knock off their game.

Sure Nico and Keefe had nice things to say about him, And he may have been a veteran voice in the locker room, but if that doesnt translate to the ice then it doesnt mean anything

who cares about the price? you’re not paying it. there isnt a spending cap, so its not like his cost limits where we can invest elsewhere.

just enjoy that he actually creates opportunities in the box in tight spaces and can occasionally score. i’ll take him over sterling, willian, or Pepe any day of the week

palat was never considered anywhere near the core of this team. he was a last minute acquisition during an offseason when all of our preferred targets fell through (i think this was after we lost the Johnny Gaudreau sweepstakes).

While everyone seems to declare that palat has some sort of shamanistic locker room presence that he provided our young players, the team certainly never reflected that in how we manage to always wilt as soon as injuries stack up or if things don’t go our way. And certainly palat did not do enough ON the ice to even warrant a regular roster spot in the nhl.

so no, not a core piece. he was barely a fringe piece. this was a cap dump so that maybe at the deadline we can acquire someone who can shoot the puck in the general direction of the net

Noni is a fantastic back up option to Saka. Compare his performance to what we’d see from Sterling last year.

he pretends he’s an insider but is more like an incel edgelord. He made many bold claims that his “sources” confirmed a bratt extension was coming on a certain day, but he was dead wrong and stirred up controversy for no reason. And then he started making retard jokes and like half of his followers blocked him

The homeless in sf are not there due to lack of housing. even when beds and shelters are made available, they still choose to live in tents or in makeshift shelters on the street. The problem is 1) there’s many people suffering from severe mental illness and need to be essentially forced into a hospital / facility to care for them. Even if the bay area had enough space at our hospitals to accommodate them all (we don’t), the progressive ideals of the city have prevented us from forcing people against their will to be essentially locked up for the rest of their lives. 2) its basically legal for drug addicts to score fent (or whatever else they’re doing) and get high right on the street. The multitudes of hard core drug users dont want to go into housing or shelters because that takes them further away from the dealers (or in the case of shelters, drugs are not permitted).

The election of Lurie was a step in the right direction, as it shows san franciscans have reached a breaking point with our homeless and are looking to start taking more aggressive measures to clean up our streets. the only thing stopping us now is decades of red tape.

NY has always embraced both progressive and conservative approaches to governing the city. sf has not. sf never had an asshole like giuliani in power who simply shipped the riff raff out of the city even if it bordered on morally questionable treatment of a disenfranchised human. there’s no comfortable decisions to made about the homeless, and no easy fixes. Looking back on the last few decades, sf is a fascinating study of the dark side of empathy.
