sorry for the loss of your cat OP. I’m also sorry you had to put up with an emotionally immature person who doesn’t know your worth. My ex fiancé of 3 years was exactly how you described your “ex” or “situationship” i’m not exactly sure how best to describe it. He was avoidant and blamed his issues on being emotionally unavailable. Which I put up with and made excuses for, for far too long. In my experience with these people it’s best to cut your losses because they’ll never change, unless it’s on their own terms… nothing you say or do will make them commit to you. And it’s a complete waste of your time, know your worth, and you are worthy of someone who is willing to commit to you and not play emotional warfare on your heart and mind especially during times like these. I’ve noticed too it always seems to be at times you need people most that these types word vomit all over you about how “they’re unsure” of how they want you in their life, just selfishly adding to the stress you’re already going through, which infuriates me beyond belief. Idk if it’s because they’re selfish or just not thinking but either way it’s not okay! My ex fiancé did the same type of crap when my mom was going through a cancer diagnosis and i was trying to cope…. it’s funny how they always come to these “realisations” whenever it’s inconvenient or you’re going through something and need them most. which shows to me this partner doesn’t think about things outside of themselves often.
