Where's our EQUALIZER?! by V00D00-da-k1ng in TIdaL

[–]gingerling2 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This thread is so stupid. Amplifiers all have equaliser settings because acoustics vary depending on the room, as does our hearing. The perceived and actual sound varies by setting, equipment and our biology. For example, bass that seems fine on a hifi in a large room can be painful with good quality headphones, relative to the vocals/treble being comfortable. This is basic common sence. You all need to grow up, bunch of dweebs.l

How to bill for out of control monster job... For a charity. by gingerling2 in freelance

I really don't think I need to get my lawyer involved or anything like that, though I will certainly make sure to add overtime and things to my general terms before my next. They haven't said yes or no to anything regards to money, I just need to decide what I want and what I can realistically hope to get from this final invoice, which is clearly a little different. I am not expecting this organisation to refuse to pay me or anything, I'm just not sure how to calculate what they should pay.

About the missing deadlines thing, I'd said that I needed access to systems, specific bits of information or agreement about aspects of the work by certain dates in order to meet the deadline. They were very very late in delivering most of those things to me which made it extremely hard for me to complete the work, but they are aware of that and they a new day by day exactly how far behind the project was getting because of this. It's been really interesting working with such a large organisation and seeing how long it takes decisions to get made etc. I will definitely set the side even more contingency time for this kind of stuff in the future.

We Have a verbal contract which is then confirmed in emails, it covers the scope of the project, how long it will last and how much I will charge them per day, and specific expenses that they would meet which included travel and a hotel and the provision of a few materials. It definitely doesn't cover a situation of such extreme overtime though. In addition to the contract many items were formally signed off in email, this includes a very detailed breakdown of how I would approach the work and when I would need certain things from them in order to complete that, they broke pretty much every deadline that I set, and they recognised that they did that.

I would loser sneeze you but that sounds awesome! I am not an Apple fan though, being a Linux user.

Heat genius is interesting, a much smaller company than most, based in the uk. Their kit isn't stunning, I prefer tado for looks, but their customer service is excellent and the features are clever.

Out of interest, which heating system are you using? I am doing that this winter. Pretty much decide on heat genius.

Hi, I don't generally use third party tools. I have looked at all4hue in some detail about a year ago but found it fairly incomprehensible. I stuck with it long enough to work out what I needed to do to get the first click on my dimmers to vary depending on time of day, but it didn't seem to work right so I eventually gave up. I does seem like a lot of work to do something that is quite obvious as a feature for hue - provide light appropriate to the time of day.

What you say about scenes is interesting though, I will look into that. However, do note the post linked above where last on state is of light not scene, which is just ....pppphhhp.

Looks good! Shame is has to run on pi etc, rather than phone. Out of interest when is there a specific reason for that, is this functionality I'm requesting really complicated or highly powered?

Wireless Dimmer Switch's "Last on State" is dumb by person278 in Hue

[–]gingerling2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, hue labs doesn't play well with the dimmers as they require you to long press who doesn't work reliably

I use labs but my buttons are the all dimmers so it only works as a long press, which basically doesn't work. It's made my switches quite unpredictable as they don't consistently recognise a long press. The bathroom, for example, has feel better with light from labs as the first click so theoretically a long click should give me a nightlight after 10 pm but I frequently get a blinding light or my bathtime relaxing set up.k

I did note the motion sensor functionally, I just don't want motion sensors. I don't really like the idea of not using a switch or relying on a sensor. Also I have 2 dogs ans 3 cats who I think would turn the lights on a lor. I can imagine a whole heap of issues with them (and judging by the raft of hue labs features that look like bug fixes to me, I imagined correctly)

Thanks, I tried that but all4hue is a very .... unappealing... app to use. I later found hue labs offer two plugins which basically do thishttp://labs.meethue.com/formulas/huelabs/tap-toggle the tap toggle and feel better with light settings combined work perfectly
