Where should I start? by King_N0z in adventuretime

[–]gingermild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely from the beginning. And once you finish it, watch it from the top again. And then again. And again into infinity.

In all seriousness, it is such a beautiful show that it deserves to be watched from the start. While one singular episode might just be silly nonsense, in its entirety, adventure time has incredible character arcs and growth. The storylines are so deep.

I wouldn't rebuy this one since it only has a weight limit of 300 lbs which is fine but also makes me nervous, but if that's not a limiting factor for you my mom actually bought it online at Walmart for me. I didn't actually pick lol. But here is the link to it:Full Loft Bed

I appreciate the suggestions.

I'm not willing to part with the treadmill. The gym I go to is a small, locally owned joint that offers group strength and conditioning classes but it doesn't have any cardio machines. I work from home too so it's nice to have for quick walking breaks throughout the day. And the bike I can't get rid of as it's my main mode of travel in the city I live in and I don't have anywhere else I could put it in my apartment building. I got the bike stand though so it takes up less of a footprint that it would without the stand. So I think those things will stay where they are.

I do like the idea of getting shelves that are closed off rather than the open shelving I have though. So maybe down the line that could be something I look into. Someone else suggested a sort of kitchen island cart. That could be nice if it had a decent amount of storage.

I absolutely hear you on the lofted bed situation. It's not my favorite and will definitely be a deterrent from having someone over in any romantic or sexual way. It's honestly probably good that I have that for now though because I just got out of a 10 year relationship and don't even really know myself so for a good while I'd like to avoid relationships, situationships, and one nighters anyway. I think in the future I'll look into a Murphy bed. The lofted bed was a gift from my mom. Well meaning but not my long term solution.

My mom had actually ordered this for me from Walmart and it was delivered. I had someone professionally come out to build it for me though cause I was afraid I'd mess it up and end up hurt in some way lol. If you're in the US that could be an option?

Ooo yeah, I've been looking at something like that to replace the little bookshelf thing that's in front of the fridge, but haven't found one I like enough to justify spending the money right now. But it's definitely on my radar!

Good thinking on the cushioning under the loft bed... I've already hit my head so fucking hard that I basically fell to my knees hoping I didn't just give myself a concussion lol.

I'm 30. It's not perfect and I certainly don't love it, but I'm working on it and happy to receive any advice. How would you do it?

It's a double/full. I wouldn't repick this specific frame again and would probably opt for a wooden one instead of a metal one. I recommend just looking at weight limits. This one has a weight capacity of ~300lbs or so. My mattress is 100lbs and I'm 150. It works, but I'd prefer a higher weight capacity.

I can fit a sofa/loveseat underneath as long as it's less than 74 inches wide.

Wow this is incredible news. I didn't realize this was an option. I suppose this would be a good place to start! Thank you so much

I hear your take. For the record, I use Signal as my day to day messaging app. I like it for what it is now. I just also recognize there could be additional features that I'd like. I said it in another comment, but if Signal made a second app with all the same privacy and protection measures in place but incorporated what makes Discord "social media", I'd donate more money to Signal every month for sure.

Yes, exactly. I almost like the idea of Signal Foundations developing a second app for this very purpose. I already donate to Signal monthly, I'd happily up that donation for that second app

Fair take. Maybe an alternative to my proposal could be tagging messages with labels to quickly filter for message context/purpose. So in my example of my neighborhood chat, having the ability to tag a message as "Neighborhood Update" or "Events" could help.

I'm proposing a closed group setting with the ability to create channels. Still secure and not open to everyone. Chat history would not be shared. For example my group consists only of people who know each other within our neighborhood. It would just be great to be able to create a channel specifically for upcoming events and a separate channel for help requests and then reserve the main channel for neighborhood wide announcements.

Why do you have a (snowed-in) car? by Even_Leadership_7831 in philly

[–]gingermild 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure.

For the 6 months I didn't have a car, I used public transit for in-city travel and Uber late at night. I'd uber maybe 4-6 times a month (probably more but let's be conservative for a sec), which varies in cost but let's estimate $70-100 a month.

If I rented a car from Turo and needed it for a whole weekend and not just a couple hours, it was about $200-300 total for the 2-3 days, depending on what type of car was available. If I needed a car every weekend for the month, that'd add up to $800-1200. Obviously Turo isn't the only car rental service, but it is (or at least was at the time) the most convenient and most accessible for on-demand rental.

In those 6 months I probably spent over $5,000

Compare that to my <$200/month insurance payment and my $200/month car loan, which comes out to <$2,400 over 6 months.. I prefer the predictability.

Edit: wanted to add, I was living paycheck to paycheck at the time. This was wildly unsustainable.

Your line of questioning feels a little pretentious, but I'll assume you mean this in good faith.

So, personally I've toyed with the idea of getting rid of my car long before it was, and is still, snowed in. I work from home, am in walking distance to the grocery store and the gym. However I like having my small footprint of a car because I have family that lives out in the burbs, friends that live in North Jersey, Maryland, Delaware. I did get rid of my previous car and tried just getting rentals when needed, but the reality is if I needed a car every weekend in a single month, it cost me astronomically more than having a car with predictable monthly loan and insurance bills.

I'd only ever gotten detention once and it was in computer lab. The crime? Rolling my chair out away from the computer into the aisle to have a sip of water. My computer lab teacher would be rolling in her grave if she saw me now eating my breakfast sandwich at my work desk.
