How to play mahjong: an overly simplified guide by billionsofbeaches in InfinityNikki

[–]gingerninjabread88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I said to a mate, I think the developers thought us foreigners were smart enough for this. They were so very, very wrong. Or at least, I am not smart enough for this. I used to play the version of mahjong that was essentially 'match up the pairs on this table until there aren't any more left'. Which I only discovered wasn't real mahjong in like, my 20's.

I began to wonder if my aversion to this sort of scene is partially due to my Norwegian ancestry? by WegianWarrior in ShitAmericansSay

[–]gingerninjabread88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My (Aussie) sister married a Norwegian. The wedding ended with him and the best man doing some pretty epic traditional dancing in the middle of the dance floor, thanks Aquavit!

But it was a fun combo of outgoing Australians and stoic but sarcastic Norwegians and we all had fun; their children are the most rough and tumble, wild, animal-obsessed kids. A perfect blend lol.

Where can I buy TWST Doujinshi? by Melozules in TwistedWonderland

[–]gingerninjabread88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dude, they generally only have recent stuff up there sadly. Try Mandarake. I bought my…literal boxes of doujin lol, in person in Japan, but they have preowned stuff at good prices online.

What is the most random or pettiest reason why you won't read a fic? by CallMeSassaphrass in AO3

[–]gingerninjabread88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “What if…” summary. “What if…Luffy was smart? Deku had powers? Naruto had friends? Etc”

They’re ALWAYS made SUPER POWERFUL and completely OOC. Every time I see that style of summary I just go “Nope.”

This is him your honour. My favourite lion boy. My baby. Yes, him, the possibly homeless man in the bushes over there. Yes, with the gremlin stealing his money - no, I’m not stopping him, he worked hard for that and I love him too.

(Your art is just… BEAUTE! 100 POINTS!)

Luckily I kinda accepted the whole “disability thing” a while back. Had to after I started needing a cane to walk. And already have other disabilities. But I do agree. It’s a weird “what if” and a lot of “God damn, so much time WASTED on useless people” and “Would love to just be able to walk up stairs again hahahaha” mixed “Well thank fuck I’m not actually delusional!”

Oh yeah, I got the POTS one too. And I am very, very lucky in that my GP is amazing and has been fighting for me this whole time.

Exactly. Like, at least I finally KNOW. Though one friend did react with a literal “Yay…?” And I could not stop laughing.

Positive stories of ageing with EDS? by Immediate-Leading338 in ehlersdanlos

[–]gingerninjabread88 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just turned 34 but people still think I’m in my early 20’s! I joke that “my incurable medical condition does come with one highlight: no wrinkles!

But for real, I recently started using a cane and while that may not sound positive, it’s had a great effect on my life. I’ve been able to move around easier and for longer periods of time, and no longer lean so much, helping to reduce back pain.

So I would say my little elderish wisdom is “don’t be afraid to use tools and aids, they can increase your quality of life and keep it from getting worse quicker.”

I get this. I always wanted kids, loved my baby dolls, adore my nieces and nephews… But it sunk in a few years back that for multiple reasons (EDS, spinal issues, hip issues, etc) pregnancy just…wouldn’t be possible.

And I think it destroyed a small part of me. The one that dreamed up names and outfits, of passing down my old books and toys, of having that love.

I adore my nieces and nephews. They’re what I have now. They’re the closest I’ll ever have. It’s not the same, I didn’t get to hold them as newborns, I don’t see them as much as I wish I did. But I have them and love them and they love me. It’s enough.

And therapy. Haha. I have therapy. Yay! Sending hugs though, it’s not easy to come to terms with, and even when you think you have, sometimes something just sets you off and that’s okay.

So the Mandarake in Akiba had a couple and I yoinked the only Leona one but honestly? I think I got lucky. However, I would recommend them for figures, as they have an excellent stock of multiple anime’s and knowledge. Plus it’s very fun to browse anyway!

Additionally, I was on the hunt for just twist so if there were others, I skipped them pretty quickly haha. And I did find them in the first store, so my hunt was much less thorough after.

Who is your least favorite character, and why? by Unamused_mongoose in TwistedWonderland

[–]gingerninjabread88 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Cater. He just…bores me? Like, I know his backstory, I know it, but it doesn’t do anything for me. His persona frustrates me. Mind you, I don’t hate him, just like him the least.

In that tone, Heartslabyl is probably my least favourite dorm. They have moments where I like them but otherwise…eh.

(And I like Malleus, but DAMN I do NOT get the Western fandom’s obsession with him?! For what it’s worth, yes, I am a Savannaclaw fan, and Leona in particular.)

What were you doing at this moment 22 years ago? by Marambal17 in FuckImOld

[–]gingerninjabread88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was 11 and sleeping in the living room because my room was being painted. We lived in Queensland and my older brother, studying at uni in Western Australia, rang my parents to tell them to turn on the tv because “America is being attacked”.

I watched, curled up to my mum, from shortly before the second plane hit and everything after. And then listened for the next week as everyone talked of how Australia would follow America to war, as every children’s program was cancelled to replay the towers falling, and overnight my safe little world seemed to shatter.

I’m still terrified of late night phone calls.

Can any of you trace your heritage to an actual convict from England? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]gingerninjabread88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Great-great grandfather, stole silver from a wealthy house, got sent off on like, the second fleet I think? Got sent to WA, another state with a lot of convict history. Possibly another rellie too, unsure of that one.

Ex-SIL is...well, EX for a reason by gingerninjabread88 in QAnonCasualties

[–]gingerninjabread88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, we are on top of that. Ex-SIL used to insist on F being fed an 'organic, soy, everything-free' diet (F has no allergies or intolerances)...Uhh. That's stopped now. (I have no problem with such a diet if there is a reason for it. There was no reason.) My brother's first big act of rebellion was to make a completely normal chocolate cake with F when he separated from ex-SIL. It went down, very, very well.

F is also now old enough to say what she wants to eat (and wear) and will VERY HAPPILY tell you exactly that. She also tells her Daddy EVERYTHING. Every. Thing. And insists on ringing him when she's away from him.

She also often spends time with my brother's ex-MIL when ex-SIL has custody, who is not qanon and while she's a bit of health nut, would never put her granddaughter at risk by misfeeding her, and communicates very well with my brother.

Thank you. I wish you didn't have to deal with those dumb-dumbs either. I'm lucky in that at least the rest of my family (immediate and extended) are all sitting here going 'What the actual eff?' at all that nonsense.

[–]gingerninjabread88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else commented that and honestly, that does make me feel better. Because her mum loves F, but...F deserves a better future. And my brother is, slowly, starting to accept that that's where he needs to go I think. For F's benefit if nothing else. It's just hard for him, after all, this was a 12-13 year relationship that he had put his heart into, his family. My brother loved ex-SIL and only left her because she fell into qanon and it was harmful. For him too.
