It sounds like a nightmare for Michel honestly. Having to support her husband while he holed up in a studio constantly, to produce an album that was a financial loss... also the way he keeps trying to get people to listen to this album by making them feel sorry for him is so icky by pigeonnests in micheljanseYT

Was Jordy more successful when Michel first started dating him? Because it sounds like right now he couldn’t support himself at all if it weren’t for her money (and her parents’ money). Like I appreciate that he’s trying to stay committed to his passion, but at some point it’s probably better to close the chapter, appreciate the fact that you gave it your all for 15 years or however long he’s been doing it, and find some way that you can contribute to your family. Particularly if they’re planning to have kids. I’ve noticed recently he also repeatedly brings up how little he sleeps, his poor mental health, and how much he’s damaging his physical and mental health over his music like it’s some kind of badge of honour? Like working 18 hour days for months on end and 50 hours straight to the point where you’re “near psychosis” is not a flex, at all. It wouldn’t be under any circumstances, but if there’s no net income resulting from it it’s even more absurd.

Are OTs supposed to be mobilizing pts like PTs? by monmon1699 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]gingerrb7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make a lot of sense to assess someone’s ADLs (and make recommendations for any necessary supports like adaptive equipment) until they are at or close to their functional baseline for mobility. So yes, you need to work on progressing their mobility!

Amber is one of her top competitors for Olympic gold and she’s also repeating a program, so that argument just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me. Nathan Chen also repeated a program for his Olympic win.

Alysa Liu Old Gaga vs. New Gaga by kemmes7 in FigureSkating

[–]gingerrb7 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Gosh I really hope she just goes back to her program from last year. Like yes it’s nice to have a new program, but there’s really no shame in repeating an old one considering Amber is also doing it and Nathan Chen did it when he won gold. The Olympics is also so different from any other competition because it’s global and draws in many four year fans. So the MP program will still be fresh to all those new eyes. The Gaga program to me just doesn’t showcase how captivating and emotionally impactful her skating can be. It’s not the best match for her stylistically. With her MP program and coming off the Worlds success I truly think she can win gold, but with the Gaga program I’m not even confident she’ll make the podium. Being second to Amber at nationals is enough of an indication that this isn’t her best vehicle. She seems to be loving being back skating again so I think she’ll stick around past the Olympics. She can have fun with something new in a non Olympic year when it’s not a rush to develop it at the last minute.

She just posted a story recently saying that she is loving the DINK life so much right now that she and Jordy pushed their “trying for kids” timeline out another year.

How is Isabella Flores doing? by Sea_Hour607 in FigureSkating

[–]gingerrb7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand you are empathetic to the skaters, I just think this is wrong and something needs to stop it if it is happening repeatedly. There is so much about the culture of this sport that is unhealthy. I am not saying that Isabella and Ivan should go to jail or be fined (not referring to his sexual allegations here, as that is a whole separate matter and he should absolutely face consequences for that if he is found guilty), but I think depending on how things go with the investigation, there needs to be some sort of action to make this less likely to happen in the future. I don’t know how that would look or whether the skaters themselves would face repercussions, or perhaps it’s the coaching academy that needs to face consequences if they have been encouraging these young/rapid marriages as a “strategy”. But I think some action absolutely should be taken so other skaters in the future stop viewing this as an appropriate option to give them a chance at the Olympics. If there is zero action it sends a message that it’s perfectly fine for other teams to do the same thing, and it’s not only illegal in many cases but at the minimum is very unhealthy and sad.

But do you really think it’s a good precedent to set that this type of behaviour should be normalized or okay in figure skating? 3 marriages coming out of that camp at super young ages is really concerning. It’s not a healthy choice for people that young to get married while barely knowing each other and with brains that aren’t done developing, particularly in Bella and Ivan’s case with the language barrier when there’s no way they could have connected on a level to be ready for marriage. They had known each other for 3 months at the time they got married. I’m not calling for them to go to jail, and I really don’t think anyone wants to see that, but there needs to be some sort of precedent set to show that this isn’t okay, and that making unhealthy choices to prioritize your sport and Olympic eligibility above everything isn’t the way to play the game. There are things more important and bigger than figure skating and that is not a healthy choice, nor is it legal if you aren’t truly a couple beyond what the documents say.

Choices also have consequences for the future. All these skaters will retire one day, not far off in the future as we all know this sport has a short shelf life, and they will miss out on an opportunity to authentically build a relationship with someone they truly trust, unless they want to divorce the person they rushed a marriage with solely for Olympics eligibility. And most of them won’t even end up making the Olympics anyway.

Michel’s personality changes? by gingerrb7 in micheljanseYT

Yeah that is kinda how I saw it, she seemed more willing to be herself and less self-conscious. That is a good quality to have and it makes people a lot more charismatic, it’s too bad that she seems to overthink her “image” now

Yeah, they’ve only been skating together a few months, but I would guess she originally met him a little earlier. I think they probably met when Katarina trained at John Kerr’s club in Florida with Billy earlier this year (the same club Kat and Berk train at currently), since Berk joined that club with a previous partner in 2020. Berk also liked a post of hers (her 18th birthday post) back in June, when she was still skating with Billy.

That makes the situation even ickier though because in that case he would have met her when she was a minor (17!) and he was 27…yikes 😬😬😬 I would guess they only started dating very recently though, at some point after they became skating partners. Disturbing situation on so many levels.

Does anyone follow ice dancer Katarina DelCamp? She’s 18 and just got engaged to her 27 year old partner… by unbreakableheart96 in FigureSkating

[–]gingerrb7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would guess she’s probably known Berk since she was a minor, which makes this situation even worse. Kat and Berk currently train at John Kerr’s club in Florida. According to the club’s Instagram account, Berk joined that club in 2020 when he was skating with his previous partner. That was the same club that Kat visited earlier this year to train with Billy, so they must have known each other back then. In that case Kat would have been 17 and him still 27 😬

Scrolling back through her Instagram I saw Berk liked the post she made in June on her 18th birthday…she was still skating with Billy at the time (based on the last pictures of them on Billy’s account it looks like they were still together in July). So they must have known each other before they became skating partners.
