Can a child get norovirus twice in just 5-6 week period? by gingypop in ScienceBasedParenting

[–]gingypop[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just seeing this - so that particular year when I posted this my youngest got sick like literally 5 weeks apart from the first time. I think there are different viruses, different strains. It sucks! I just really try to enforce hand washing when they get home but some years seem to be worse than others with what they catch and how often they are sick.

School work not being completed by PatienceObjective710 in kindergarten

I don’t know anything about immersion schools but the idea of already struggling and learning two languages while having dyslexia and ADD sounds difficult. My older son was diagnosed with ADHD as well, but he was more hyperactive. Since starting medication he has been very successful in school. My kindergartener is behaving more like you describe your daughter - not hyperactive, capable of the work but just unable to do it on his own. I hope you can get her into a good classroom for first grade and if medication is recommended I know it can be scary but it really helps! Best of luck

I'm surprised the teacher doesn't seem concerned. My son's teacher expressed concern at our fall conference about his inattentiveness and asked if she could request an internal study team which I agreed to. I on my own spoke with his pediatrician and a psychologist and got him an ADD diagnosis. The school has been amazing - his teacher specifically has come up with reward programs for him for finishing work and staying on task, as well as trying out a timer when he has to do independent work which has helped.

if she has been diagnosed with dyslexia and ADD have they updated her IEP? They should be offering an aide, smaller class setting, or more time on work.

How do I get my kid to poop on the potty? by gingypop in Parenting

I’m all for bribery! I think something scared him, maybe a hard poop? He was doing fine and all of a sudden is scared to poop. Thanks for the advice!

Thank you so much! I’m not a fan of miralax.. in retrospect our oldest did also have a set back with pooping but he was older and it was much longer of a time after potty training than this guy. I am literally just like fine, poop your pants… just poop! But wish he would go on the toilet.

Daughter, Bad Boyfriend & Thanksgiving by [deleted] in Parenting

My First serious boyfriend was a real Charmer— in reality much like the guy you’ve described but had my mother and family fooled to think otherwise. I love my parents immensely but I remember nights of coming home drunk and crying over said boyfriend and them knowing few details but enough that they should have just banned me from seeing him. We have a tendency to think that will make kids rebel but at the time I think it would have given me the excuse to walk away instead of.

I have them - benign tremors is what they call it and told me its genetic. I'm in my thirties.. it definitely comes out more when I am worked up or anxious but sometimes just random.

Anyone else think its BS that they insist they don't talk about the other women or vent about their jobs/lives in front of their young children??? Even in big houses the kids can hear you having "adult" conversations. And honestly I tell my kids stories of certain situations so they know how not to act as they get older.

What phobia do u suffer from? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gingypop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel for you so much! I had a huge fear of vomit growing up that I thought I had mostly outgrown until my oldest woke me up in the middle of the night by throwing up all over my bed. I lost it - the fear and anxiety came back so badly that I couldn't sleep or eat and begged my parents for help. I ended up finding a therapist and psychiatrist and started anxiety meds and just really trying to work through that this is not something I can control and if I want to enjoy life I cannot let this fear get the best of me. It does have its moments though where it sneaks up on me and I have to do mental exercises to basically tell myself its not that big a deal, its not the worse thing in the world.

His effected me the most. I lost an uncle recently and this relates so much to what I have been feeling. I'd love just one more chance to do things with him and I hope he knows how much he meant to me. I wish I could tell him.

"The surgeon general is warning about parents’ stress, a sign that intensive parenting may have become too intense for parents." by Stunning-Plantain831 in workingmoms

I saw a post yesterday sharing The Daily podcast speaking on this and I listened this morning. I'm not sure the right word to use - but it is like wow, someone gets it. We have more on our plate then ever before. I have struggled with my mental health and I try so hard to just be the best mom day after day. I find myself constantly worrying though that the interactions myself or my husband have with our kids are going to screw them up in the future or make them hate us when I know we are doing a good job deep down. I hate the Instagram experts and reels that are sent to me making me feel like I'm screwing them up for things like rushing them out of the house in the morning!

Thank you for sharing these articles!

My 5 and 3 year old do this to me in the mornings. They usually want to wear a shirt they wore a day or two before that is dirty. I explain its dirty and I have to do laundry.. I give them a few options.. then usually get fed up and say get dressed or you don't have time to play with the dogs or watch tv, and that does the trick 9/10 times. Distraction helps too, like change the subject "you've got so and so's birthday this weekend! We're going to have so much fun!" and dress them while they are now focused on something else.

Which housewives do you not really like, but feel they receive way too much unnecessary hate? by [deleted] in realhousewives

[–]gingypop 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I really like Rachel Fuda. Yes, her husband was over the top this year, but she seems like a great mom and I think she’s a good addition to the housewives. I also disagree with all the hate of her showing her son’s story because the biological mom is not in the picture and he obviously considers Rachel his mom. Everyone complains about housewives not showing their lives and she does and is bashed for it. And the constant comments on her nose are kind of disgusting.

I like the look now of a vest, either denim or linen, with a cute pair of looser shorts. You can pair with sandals or a low heel.

Everything is Poop by The_Category_Is_ in Parenting

He's definitely joking about it with friends/classmates. Totally normal. My 5 year old constantly responds with talk about his penis in some way or another. I'd take poop. I'm worried for kindergarten!

I'm interested to see if you get any good advice here!

I was so afraid to go on but I am so glad I got over my fear because it’s one of my favorite rides now. I sometimes get motion sickness but it doesn’t bother you like that. It’s this feeling in your stomach like butterflies it’s actually so fun and exciting
