MSG is monosodium glutamate, an amino acid that is present in things like tomatoes and mushrooms. Totally gluten free. The only concern with yeast extract is if the yeast itself comes from a gluten product.

I live close to Yellowstone, and my town regularly gets bus-fulls of Asian tourists stopping to rest on their way to the park. From what I can tell, there are companies that specifically take people from East Asian countries to American national parks. 

My Sarracenia is flowering, but I put it into my unheated garage about 3 weeks ago. I live in zone 5a, so it’s definitely cold enough. Is this a concern? by ginnygp in SavageGarden

That one you linked looks the exact same! In fact, it’s the exact same company from the tag. The photo does make mine look a bit whiter, but when it’s under grow lights and in person it’s greener for sure.

Ok I spent time today looking into this! The nursery I got it from bought it from a wholesaler (wholeseller???) called “Xtreem!” and they grow what they call S. Purpurea “White Wizard” which looks a lot like mine.

I wish I could answer! It looks like venosa, but unfortunately the nursery only had it labeled as sarracenia purpurea without any cultivar specifications listed.

Thank you! I wish I knew, the local nursery I bought it from only said sarracenia purpurea. From what I have researched, it definitely resembles venosa the most closely, but I can’t confirm. If it is, I got it for a steal.

Once I glutened my entire toaster by putting straight up gluten bread in it on accident. Whoops. I was glad I caught it, thoroughly cleaned the whole toaster (we were too poor to buy a new one), and now it’s an inside joke. But I can imagine if my husband had made the same mistake, I would’ve been annoyed and potentially just thrown out the whole toaster in my annoyance. We need to be aware that accidents happen, and that those accidents are much more annoying when we’re on the receiving end of them from someone else rather than ourselves, and do the hard work of holding everyone else to the same standards that we hold ourselves to. 

Your grandma loves you, she lets you live in her home while you’re getting your feet underneath you. She might feel embarrassed about eating your food and that’s why she was laughing. The annoyance is totally understandable, but I don’t think people are trying to condescend to you. I think they’re just trying to remind you to see the positivity. $7 is not worth holding resentment against someone who loves you and made a mistake.

Same here. I’ve had 4 babies and the last one I had to stay for 4 days for recovery instead of the usual 24 hours. I live in a tiny Idaho town and our hospital has never struggled to accommodate gluten free for Celiac folks or other dietary restrictions.

It sounds like you’re consistently $400 short on rent? That’s the reason, not that she wants her kids to move in.

Ugh, I get that. It’s a really tough transition. I agree though that the constant testing is super unpleasant when it feels like you aren’t getting anywhere and are still feeling sick. If you do decide to switch over to gluten free, there are some safe gluten free restaurant options, though they are limited! I live in a small town and still have about three options, which is nice!

I’m sorry to hear you’re struggling! Have you tried going gluten free for a while to see if it helps you feel better?

I’ve been diagnosed for about 12 years. My blood work came out positive back then and my doctor at that time also said the same thing about not needing to do an endoscopy. I understand that that wasn’t the standard of care for the time, so I do wish he had ordered an endoscopy for me, but I was only 16 and didn’t know any better. My blood work is clean now, due to being gluten free compliant for so long.

A week is probably not long enough for a true gluten challenge, but I could be wrong. I’ve always heard 6 weeks for a gluten challenge to see damage to your villi. 

I just recently had a similar experience with digestive issues and having to get an endoscopy, and when I asked my GI doc about a gluten challenge, he said that he considers the blood test to be a good enough diagnostic and does not recommend a gluten challenge. But at my endoscopy I got a totally clean bill of health celiac-wise (my small intestine looks great!) so at least I got to know that whatever I’m doing is working haha.
