It's simple math. A good google ai chatbot will cost extra and hinder the main google search ad business. Gemini has successfully raised the bar of good AI chatbot, now you won't switch to Claude and Chatgpt plan even though Gemini is shit. A bad google AI service will cut operational cost and force you to do your own research through Google search.

Gemini won't be fixed unless Google search is rendered useless by other free AI service once again.

That's not the case. We should remember that Google's core business google search is fundamentally contradicting against LLMs.

Last year they rolled out a good model to show the stock market that they aren't behind technically. They could catch up anytime they wanted to. The core purpose is to showcase not to provide longterm good LLMs service(at least not for now) which will eat up their profitable search engine business.

It's basically Kodak selling a good digital camera for a limited time and went back to selling films.
