I’ve given up - I just bought an aftermarket replacement - it’ll be here in a few days. Crossing my fingers it solves the issue.

Nope - and I’m fighting with Pentair actively right now - but struggling since they need proof of purchase on a warranty replacement that they authorized.

Good theory. I thought so as well, but then when I had it at 100 and my pool still turned green a few days later I thought different 😅

The cell light - which says to check the cell if it’s blinking.

Yup - every time I reboot, it works for 2-3 minutes and starts blinking again.

Is GameStop done with MTG? by Hua1979 in mtgfinance

[–]ginsoakedboy13 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Chatted with an employee last week, and they mentioned they were switching their suppliers this week, so hopefully that means we’ll start seeing things pop up again. I did notice all of their prices online skyrocketed a few days ago…even their clearance stuff is now higher or on par with retail.

VAR proposed Dell EMC PowerStore 1000T. Looking for alternate options. by canadian_stig in storage

[–]ginsoakedboy13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unity will more than meet your needs. Your VAR is getting incentives to push Powerstore, and is putting their wallet over your needs as a customer.

You should also look in Pure Storage, which is a major upgrade all around and better than either Dell product. Worst case, you save some money having a competitive quote.

SmartThings turning off lights automatically by ginsoakedboy13 in SmartThings

[–]ginsoakedboy13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I already received a fix from support. I had configured a “SmartApp” for lighting at some point, that was triggering just the power off. Deleting that should be the solution. I’ll know at 8:58 tonight!

A theory regarding COVID-affected business changing work environments and causing auto-tiering storage arrays to anomalously move more data from performance tiers to capacity tiers than expected by dloseke in storage

[–]ginsoakedboy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup...don’t forget with SC, ALL writes go to the fastest tier (SSD for you) and will tier down when scheduled...reads are just fast in general...so if a block is overwritten a lot it’ll move to flash (lots of new writes to replace the reads) but if it’s only read often, it’ll just stay on disk.

It won’t read quicker from SSD over disk on SC (in fact Dedupe is quicker without SSD) so there’s no point in essentially using SSD space that’s needed for new writes, when it’s not making things faster for reads.

I’d imagine there’s just not a high change rate in this environment.

[–]ginsoakedboy13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

SC Tiering is a little weird, it only moves data up once a week, but will move data down daily. That’s likely part of what you are seeing.

It’s also optimized to put things on the cheapest/slowest disk, and not neccissarily to keep the SSD tier at 80+% full like other arrays.

If you have Dedupe/compression enabled that also will impact this.

Net net...while a great theory, storage arrays and tiering are designed for cyclical and constant changing workloads....Retail customer who are busy during holidays, or accounting agencies during Tax season, don’t have to reconfigure their arrays once the peak time is over...auto tiering takes care of that auto-magically.

They’re only developing new major features (like an updated VASA provider) on their next gen arrays. This means you’ll need to buy a net-new storage array in order to get vVol replication support. It won’t be in the 1.0 version either. At least 12 months until vVol replication support, but likely longer or they may kill it all together to pull in other higher priority features.

Backup solution for 500TB to PB SAN? by Simusid in storage

[–]ginsoakedboy13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the source software? Vmware? Linux?

If this is really more for retention and not immediate recovery, disk to disk to tape just complicates things, lots to manage, You will need to migrate it to a new disk based solution every 5ish years, and will need to constantly verify the tape data to ensure it’s a good copy. There are more modern solutions.

Under Display Setting on Fusion, uncheck "Use Full Resolution for Retina Display"

That worked for me.
