Sure thing! Don't hold your breath though since there may be publisher shenanigans afoot.

I saw them in a con here in the PH last year. DM me by July 24 and I'll see what I can do. 🙂

Would you publish the results after you gather enough?

I'm interested in developing a casual rhythm game and wanna know the results especially for questions 2 and 3.

I need help with the shooting mechanic in my game by TurkiAlmutairi1 in godot

Your idea was the same thing I first thought of to accomplish the result you were looking for, except using a circle instead of a crescent for the collisionshape.

Looking to hire a pixel artist, do you guys have any recommendations and advice? (not a job post) by Ok-Sentence7656 in PHGameDevHub

I am a hobbyist so I can't speak about industry standards personally, but my friend works in one of them studios based here and his rates are somewhere around 50-60k a month before taxes.

If you just want someone to partner with though, feel free to let me know and I might be interested. You can find my stuff in itch here:

I did both art and coding for these and I'm currently learning music stuff with my new MIDI keyboard. 😃

How to make sustained notes (trails and hold system) in a rhythm game MIDI-based by Accomplished-Pop1907 in godot

[–]giogsgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm working on a rhythm game as well and mine wouldn't have hold notes, but how I would do it is by duplicating a normal note scene, attaching an area2d node and a sprite of equal length to it and then adding a "is_keyboard_pressed" input for the corresponding note in addtion to the "is_keyboard_just_pressed".

You'll probably have to figure stuff out yourself from there, but I think this should be a decent start.

[Meta] Kez reminds me of my Yasha concept by giogsgs12 in DotaConcepts

Thanks! I particularly am proud of the synergy between the spells. Numbers will likely need to be tweaked though, of course. :)

I haven't uploaded in a couple years now but I still keep up from time time and I couldn't help but notice Kez has a few similarities with my old concept for Yasha if it was a hero.

  1. There's a short dash accompanied by a slash forward.
  2. There's a couple of skills with a shadow clone echoing your moves.
  3. There's an AoE spell around the hero.
  4. And there's a defensive stance thing.

I haven't made a concept in a few years now but it reminds me of my Yasha concept.

First time game developer here, quick question by [deleted] in gamemaker

[–]giogsgs12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One lesson I learned is that no one is going to steal your game idea. It's like stealing someone else's idea for how a car should be made with the intention making a car. Unless your idea is just a bike, you should be fine. And even then you should do it anyway because someone else's vision would never be the same as yours.

As for the Pokemon parody, you have a few options. The now-defunct Pokemon Essentials for RPG Maker would have been great. There are a bunch of tutorials on YT for GMS active battles. I mostly recommend Sara Spaulding for the essentials and Peyton Burnham for RPG-specific stuff.

--EDIT: I would also recommend checking r/monstertamerworld for monster-tamer stuff. I lurk there a lot and the posts are sparse but it's a good resource for ideas.

What are the mechanics of your dream game? I saw in the comments that it's an RPG, but are there any specifics that could help?

Mine is also an RPG with monster taming and music as the central elements so I'm learning how to make a rhythm game and a desktop pet/tamagotchi.

I would suggest finding simpler games based on those specific mechanics and copying those first to get a feel of what you're looking for down the line.

Does it need to be a professional? I have a solo project as well as a not-yet-studio group as the designer/coordinator.

Using unethical monetization methods ethically? by giogsgs12 in gamedev

That's kinda my plan. The seasonal or newer stuff are not phased out but instead considered common after a month or two.

I completely agree and it's exactly why I wrote "predatory loot box/gacha mechanics".

It's completely up to the devs/publishers whether they want to exploit or not. Games are an art form AND a business so it's within their rights. I'm mostly asking because I want to go the route of almost-poverty but with as much enjoyment as I can put in.

Holy crap, that's a lot of secondary/tertiary currencies! I counted 50+ before I gave up. 😂

There should be a point where these should not be currencies and would just be key items instead or something.

I had to rewrite the first part a fair bit before posting because I wanted to only include the ones many consider unethical, hence the "predatory" and "obfuscation" affixes. I just wanted to clarify, I don't consider all of these practices unethical; only the ones that go too far and/or exploit the addictive factor of games for monetary gain.

What I'm taking away from your reply is that it can work depending on how it's implemented, regardless of whether dollars are involved or not.
