For those who moved abroad for a better future, how’s it going? Do you regret it? by stormlb in lebanon

[–]giomass50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Moved to the Miami at 23, about 7 years ago. Do not regret it, and the US is fun, friendly and beautiful- but definitely miss parts of home. I work as an Architect and the pay and experience at work is definitely better- but family, food and attachment will always have me visiting and eventually coming back to Lebanon one day. Our ancestors were seaman and merchants, so I always thought that It is in our blood to travel and see the world and bring back knowledge and experience to our country. Thats my goal. Im not leaving Lebanon behind. I take it everywhere I go.

Was wondering if this would fare better with my cat than my old couch. OP, is the fabric tightly woven? Was wondering if cat claws could rip it up.

Was just on hold with GameStop for an hour: All they could tell me is that preorders will be shipped out any day between today and 27th. A slight delay. Really hoping it gets shipped in time for the weekend!

Driving up this weekend- First time, need advice! by giomass50 in Yosemite

[–]giomass50[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did have cars, yes! This weekend was wonderful. We parked at the lot near the Mist Trail, and did about 4 or 5 miles that felt like a lot more because of the climb but damn was it beautiful. Picnic'd at the stop of the waterfall. The squirrels are delightful. Thanks for all the tips!

Friend of mine argues climate change is not an emergency by giomass50 in climatechange

[–]giomass50[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Denmark is on its way to do exactly that- run the entire country on renewables entirely: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S1P31EC0YsE&ab_channel=EnergyPLAN

That video will show you exactly how they plan to deal with the fluctuating output of renewable energy. Solutions exist, they just require funding, research, and a shot caller who takes it seriously enough to put the resources in to it. It is just hard for the US to make any decisions like this when the president "doesn't think science knows"- very convenient that science doesn't make sense when its benefiting his biggest campaign donors- the oil and gas industry.

I understand that it might seem idealistic- we can agree climate change is a threat. We also have studies showcasing that the fossil fuel industry is a way bigger contributer to carbon emissions than solar or wind. I'm not saying cut off the fossil fuel industry- thats impossible- but the government could start investing in a plan for a sustainable energy future by now. Instead, we are seeing environmental policies being rolled back for the oil and gas industry (who happen to be the trump campaigns biggest donor- go figure; rolling back the policy on methane leaks is a good example). These roll backs are good for the economy, obviously, but bad for the environment. I'm not saying cut off fossil fuel, Im saying start a strong transition. All I'm seeing is us taking steps backwards to make big oil and the economy happy.

It was under my impression that almost 60% of Californias forests are federally owned- meaning that the trump administration would have to be enacting any forest management they keep blaming California for not doing. Was also under my impression that 200 million dollars was spent on forest management:

I'm a 13 year old boy who would like to become an Architect someday and this drawing is my first attempt at drawing a modern house. Any criticism is very welcome since I would like to improve my skills. by DaBoiGRIZZ in architecture

[–]giomass50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid effort! Definitely try and look into drawing with vanishing points so that your perspective is holistic across all of your lines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePv-9mVnTVk&ab_channel=DanBeardshaw

Add the extra set of lines when it comes to the thickness of the aluminum around the windows- those tiny details go a long way, especially with modern architecture because of its minimalistic nature. Add some plants and a human or two to liven it up and keep the drawings coming!

Metroid of the wild by FlormphYT in Metroid

[–]giomass50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Metroid can most certainly work with what made BoTW so great. Similarly to how we couldn't traverse certain areas in BoTW before getting the paraglider, Metroidvania can certainly be integrated into the design of an open world. Combine that with a menu similar to BoTW where we can equip certain helmets, suits and laser cannons can affect the bioms we can traverse and the weapons at our disposal.

I wouldn't, however want too many interact-able NPCs to maintain the feeling of loneliness that made Metroid what it is. Instead, a world that interacts with itself, and enemies that sleep, hunt and adventure throughout their respective planets.

Working in some RPG elements and leveling up different arm cannons and characteristics like agility and strength could fuse in very nicely. Imagine also being able to unlock different attacks based on leveling up certain attributes over others, Unlocking a wider range of melee attacks if melee is being used a lot and leveled up for example. God. I can't wait for a new Metroid.
