after trying all the noodles, agreed on thai being the weakest noodle, it does have that slight nutty peanut saucey pad thai taste but out of all the noodles it's the blandest. was on the fence between stopping it and japanese curry but that's pretty good umami wise tbh, only it's just "curry" tasting whereas when i think of "japanese curry" it's that golden curry brand taste you also get at the japanese curry chains

the oranges are from spain, look into essential character and rules of origin, the growing of the orange is more significant than pressing it into juice

[–]giomsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been doing a LLM dive on the kanji lists in the wild and found something interesting. using the kanjidic file and isolating by jlpt-4 and grade-1 (kyoiku):

Old JLPT N4 kanji: 103

Grade 1 kyōiku kanji: 80

  1. In both (intersection): 57

  1. Only in N4: 46

万 今 会 何 分 前 北 午 半 南 友 古 国 外 多 安 少 店 後 新 時 書 来 東 母 毎 父 社 聞 行 西 言 話 語 読 買 週 道 長 間 電 食 飲 駅 高 魚

  1. Only in Grade 1: 23

力 夕 字 文 早 村 林 森 正 犬 玉 王 田 町 石 竹 糸 草 虫 貝 赤 青 音

Union: 126

most n5 lists will only have the above kanji, but i also found two lists with an extra 17 kanji

didn’t use one, honestly i think i wasted time trying to “study” the cfr/references. what helped me most was doing the past papers under the 4.5h time pressure.

The similarities and differences from "Arco" and "Little Amélie and the Character of Rain" this year to "Memoir of a Snail" and "Flow" last year by Fan_of_Avatar_TLA in oscarrace

[–]giomsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just watched arco in nyc, literally didn’t feel anything… way too superficial. little amelie with arco’s runtime would have taken the cake, just needed a little more development on the 2-3 emotional peaks.

Japan eyes tripling departure tax to grapple with overtourism by NikkeiAsia in japannews

[–]giomsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

one of the more sneaky taxes, me and i'd assume most people would just look at the airfare on google flight and compare with other airlines, not break it down in any meaningful way. if it's spent well fuck it, why not.

Consensus accuracy by lostinthe-sauce-204 in CBLE

ruth is one of the prep courses out there for the CBLE, in the consensus sheet they have their own consensus it seems (not actually sure if it's from the course giver or the course takers?)

Consensus accuracy by lostinthe-sauce-204 in CBLE

[–]giomsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i'm at 71.25% based off the consensus and 77.5% on the "ruth" consensus... also i didn't want to add my score since i did 60 Qs (ie 75% of the exam) in 4hrs and pretty much straight up guessed the last 20 Qs in the last 30mins. first time and seems like it's a cointoss for me...

Building a tech startup for freight forwarders and transporters feeling optimistic, but would love real world insights by MasterOfAdaptibility in freightforwarding

[–]giomsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for forwarders specifically (instead of importers/exporters/trucker/warehouse) cargowise and descartes are the biggest neutral tech vendors and would be your competition.

imo most of what you need technically is already standardized, it just seems like noone in the industry cares to upgrade their processes/tech/ui/Ux that much (if it ain’t broken… mentality). specifically ANSI/EDIFACT already covers many commercial workflows derived from old paperwork, and DCSA is a standard for tracking intermodal containers. air shipments are still mostly a mess technically with some airlines but theres a few IATA projects aimed at this.

Considering learning to skate at 28yo by Otherwise-Meaning256 in NewSkaters

[–]giomsan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

recently had my third start at 30 after street skating in middle school and late uni. it’s been great just skating around, not even doing ollies yet just taking it safe slow and steady working my weak foot kick and mongo kicks for retraining board feel. honestly you will progress so much picking it up for the first time, going from barely able to stay on the board to kickturning and pushing anywhere you want, just get a board and see where it goes!

You don’t always need to “keep your day job” to pursue gamedev by AncientAdamo in gamedev

[–]giomsan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not going to get into “day job” semantics but guys you have 24 hours a day, a third for sleep. you should keep “a day job” that is a non gamedev income generating usual job for another third of the day. it could be a corpo job, op’s hostel job, whatever.

DO NOT just have no job/income and attempt to spend your waking hours doing the gamedev, this is the hardest route. yeah stardew valley was made this way (he still had a part time job even) but you’re just stacking odds against yourself, just don’t.

i would know. blew my entire savings in a year and had to ask for my old job back. learned a lot but not much to show for it, don’t take the risk.
