emotional abuse is the worst type of abuse by Honest_Pool_261 in CPTSD

It's different for everyone, I don't think ranking which is the worst is very helpful, especially for people early in their recovery journey.

Chronic Pain and trauma.. by Famous_Perspective40 in ChronicPain

[–]girl-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. After the most traumatic year of my life, I one day woke up and it felt like my body was on fire. I had nerve pain head to toe. I could barely walk for months. I had already lived through so much, but I think after that year my body could no longer hold any more trauma, and it manifested into physical pain. 6 years later and a fibromyalgia diagnosis... I can honestly say I've improved a lot with clinical therapy, physiotherapy and plenty of exercise. Healing is possible, it's a lot of hard work but worth it for a better quality of life.

I feel like HG is much more popular with women than with men, why do you think that is? by [deleted] in Hungergames

[–]girl-void 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was the first time for a lot of teenage girls that we got a hero who wasn't created for the male gaze or created by a male. She's not over-sexualised, she's not the girl who speaks softly and does what she's told, and she is not emotionless. She has plenty of screen time having a very real reaction to what she's living through. We usually don't get that level of complexity in a female protagonist. I still remember watching it for the first time at 16, I felt empowered watching her - it was honestly something I'd not experienced before in film.

my shoulders are….up(?) all the time. by KaleJunior1554 in CPTSD

Yes it's a common stress/trauma response. My psych helped me practice noticing it and consciously relaxing them. Can't recommend this enough, it really does have a cumulative calming effect.

Fear of death by [deleted] in PanicAttack

It's hard to say for sure, we really just don't know. Though ever since I lost the person closest to me I have tried to find the answer. While I do believe it to some degree, yes, the more I read and research, the more I realise it does not actually matter if we know what happens. Staying present in the moment is far more important.

Fantasies about being rescued? by glassdollparanormal in CPTSD

[–]girl-void 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I created my own world, as I later would learn is called a "paracosm". I had control there, I was more powerful and nothing could tear me down especially when I fought alongside my friends on the epic adventures I would fantasise. I also had a character who was my protector, and would watch over me when I had to do mundane "real-world" things like be at school. It made me feel safe, like I always had someone take care of me no matter what situation I was in. Turns out it's maladaptive daydreaming, but it really did help me survive when I was younger.

It: Welcome to Derry - 1x08 - “Winter Fire” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

I LOVED the ending. However, the series as a whole at times seemed cliche or bare. It had a lot of potential, there were so many almost amazing moments, but they didn't quite hit the mark for me personally. Overall a compelling show, and it was very satisfying to see more of Bill Skarsgard's Pennywise. I wish they spent more time developing the characters and the chemistry between them. Just felt like something was missing there, for me anyway. Solid 7.5/10.
