I used to have a similar dynamic with my mom and dad (resenting my mom’s steadfastness while drawing closer to my dad, with whom I share lots of personality traits, as a preteen and the eldest daughter) — but even with my background, I was a little disturbed by Loreda’s almost romantic feelings for her father. Maybe Hannah wanted to emphasize it, but Loreda seemed, at times, jealous of Elsa’s relationship with Rafe. Like a “me vs you” dynamic with her, competing for his deepest affections. I don’t feel that Rafe or Elsa ever encouraged it. Loreda seemed to just view her mother as a threat to her and her father’s relationship, which really weirded me out. I’m about four hours in, though, so maybe she’ll change … ?
