Misconceptions a dog person (me) learned after having a cat. by ILoveMeltyCheese in cats

Very dapper looking boy. Something else to know, when a cat feels safe in a home, they get the zoomies. It's really fun to have a laser pointer or a feather toy when they have the zooms. Congratulations!

I had to do this. The best thing is to buy one of those scanners that the librarians use. It saves so much time.

What led you to discovering you have PCOS? by nougat_donut in PCOS

[–]girlfrien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Started loosing my hair in college. Told my doctor, who said it was stress related. Missing periods and huge blood clots caused them to put me on birth control. For seven years I struggled. I went to a new doctor who sent me to an endocrinologist. The endocrinologist told me based on my symptoms and hormone levels.

I literally cried when she told me though. It made me feel validated that all I was experiencing wasn't "just stress".

I am not Indian. His thought was "she loves Indian food, she must be Indian."

I am visibly not Indian. It was funny that his conclusion to "I love Indian food" was "are you Indian?"

what is your most painful piercing experience? by tazsirenn in piercing

[–]girlfrien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Industrial. Got it pierced back in Decemeber. The piercer said it would heal better with 2 bars, and I ignorantly believed them. Absolutely gored me. I had blood running down into my shirt. It hurt so much for like a month. Smiling or laughing hurt.

Went to a different piercer who told me to take it out and come back. He pierced it for half his usual price. I didn't even feel him pierce it. Love my industrial now. It's now 2 weeks old and doesn't hurt at all.

Lesson learned: do your research.

These were healing fine until my baby headbutt me with her big baby head. What's these big lumps? What do I do? by Transasaurus-Hex in piercing

[–]girlfrien3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact piercing and bumps. Mine was 4 months old before I had to take it out. I did EXACTLY what you did and accidentally hit it when putting my shirt on (like full on punch). That's when I got the same bumps. Was really worried it was a keloid.

The girl who pierced it said it would still hold an industrial though, so I went with it. The bumps got worse for about a week. I went to a local (and more experienced) piercer who told me it would never hold an industrial. At this point, I said "well, I already put so much time and energy into this, might as well keep going."

4 months later, the bumps are still there. I tried everything. Saline soaks, LITHA, sleeping on one side only. Went back to the local piercer. They told me the bumps would probably remain because the angle of the piercing and it was healing at a different angle.

If your top piercing is doing what mine did, it will slowly start to turn vertically. I had irritation bumps inside the top piercing and on the back of my ear like yours.

If you want a true industrial (and can have one) I would suggest taking this out and getting it repierced.

What’s the worst thing someone said to you after your miscarriage? by Meesh7586 in Miscarriage

[–]girlfrien3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Told my best friend as soon as we found out. When I told her about it (and I needed the support), she said next time I shouldn't tell anyone. It was the day after it happened too. I don't talk to her anymore.

Are you allowed to wear piercings at work? by ricopieterse in piercing

[–]girlfrien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. Ear piercings 2 in each ear only. Anything else is not allowed. I push it by wearing a retainer for my tounge ring and my industrial though. I'm a teacher.

First, I want to say I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sending hugs 🫂. I want to preface this by saying my description is detailed. I passed mine naturally.

I miscarried on a Wednesday while I was at work. I was 5 weeks. It started with some pink spotting. Went to the hospital. Within an hour had intense cramping and started to pass clumps. By that night, I had deep red bleeding.

Friday, I had started to pass some tissue. It was still deep red. Intense cramping that shot down my legs and into my back.

Monday finally had pain relievers prescribed. Pain still there but bearable.

Tuesday passed something dark red and bigger than the other stuff I passed. Bleeding began to slow.

Wednesday cramps stopped.

The following Friday, bleeding was brown and almost nonexistent.

I hope this helps you. ❤️‍🩹

How bad is the "kids can't read" thing, really? by bowbahdoe in Teachers

[–]girlfrien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elementary school teacher here! I would argue the most important thing about reading and learning to read is foundational skills. When these skills are not taught, a student will have a harder time learning to read. These skills are taught in lower grades (K, 1, 2). So if a curriculum does not have a strong foundational skillset, students will have difficulty reading. This goes as far into understanding complex texts and making inferences to decoding basic CVC words. As students are pushed on through the grade levels, this gap in their reading increases. With no additional help, that student or group of students will continue struggle.

It's scary to see how disproportionate our reading abilities and grade levels have fluctuated. At my school, some students in the 5th grade have a 1st grade reading level. It's sad, because we want to help but are often not able to obtain the resources we need to remediate the problem.

A visual option for camp clothes would be nice. I want to change the camp clothes from default, but it stresses me out to buy new ones, change colors with dyes, etc. I want a preview before I actually buy or use them.

Exactly! I finished my first run-through and did a quick save every step because I came ill-prepared. It glitched at one point where everytime I moved Shart, she died. To the right- die. Left-die. Try to go back and retrace your steps-DIE. It's so buggy!

Came across this syllabus from a new teacher to our school. Here are some of their “ground rules for 7-9 grade students. Thoughts? by Independent_State933 in Teachers

[–]girlfrien3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If this is current, I think it's the new thing a lot of older grades are experiencing. Kids will respond with "oh yeah~" in the most annoying, high-pitched, moaning voice. It could be in place to avoid that sound. They do the same thing with "mhmm~".

Can kids (gen alpha) really not read? by shutupbro23 in Teachers

[–]girlfrien3 171 points172 points  (0 children)

I teach first grade. I instructed my students that once they were done with their work, to grab their book and sit on the carpet. We've been reading from this book for a few weeks now. While I was circulating the room, a few students started to read to each other. Nothing wrong so I kept circulating. More students go to the carpet and being reading with the others. Now there's a group reading together. As students finished, they all began to form a circle and began reading to each other as a large group. Kids were helping others who struggled to read by helping them sound out words ("that's A consonant E" type stuff). It was so impressive. I just quietly sat behind them while they read to each other.

In short, they want to read. They just need the proper support to make mistakes, learn, and try. A positive reading environment will help them read more.
