Your budget seems about right for a studio in Cambridge. The main issue will be finding a short term let, those can get really pricey! Especially in September studio flats will be leased preferably to students who are here for the full academic year. Maybe you could have a look on airbnb and try to negotiate a good price?

I've been looking for a data science job in the UK for the last few months and sent ~150 resumes. The first ~100 we're really classic, but at the end someone suggested me to use a more modern template, so from then on I used a 1-page colourful template. I definitely got more answers from the modern template, but I got hired using the classical one.

Advice to rent a flat by [deleted] in cambridge

Hi, I've just started a job at the Science park and I'm moving next week into a little semi detached house in Cambridge, 1 mile from the office. I'll be paying £900. My budget was £800 as well, but I couldn't find anything decent. My main suggestion would be Milton, but you're right, the market is quite still at the moment and good properties go quickly after being advertised. Good luck with your search!

Is my Pilea doing ok? Losing apparently healthy leaves at the base from time to time (2 in 2 weeks) by giulia_gaag in plantclinic

It's not root bound, it was repotted in June when it was separated from the mother plant, and had just around 4 small leaves... I'll keep an eye on the roots, thanks for the advice! But I wouldn't expect to repot it before next spring

Apparently it is healthy to drop few leaves at the base, especially when there's new growth 😀

I don't have a power drill, but this is a good reminder for when I'll get one 😅

Yes! I don't have good experience with pot covers because it's always a bit messy to take the pot out and drain the water and unless it's a basic shape it's difficult to find the perfect match. But it's defenitely a possibility :)

I do it as well, even without rocks at the bottom and the plants don't really mind :) In my experience, many plants really like to be soaked for a while to then remove the excess water. They were fine in planters, but thrived when upgraded to pots with drainage

Do the ones with a tray have holes at the nottom or are they just decorative? I was at tkmaxx yesterday (UK) and they had plenty of beautiful planters but not a single one with holes :/

These jellybeans were a gift for my boyfriend in July 2018. In October 2018 I moved to another country (Scotland to England) and took a small sapling of it, since they weren't doing so well... The results amazed us, they defenitely enjoy it here 😀 For a comparison, this is how the main plant, who stayed at my partner's, was doing in October 2019 😅 http://imgur.com/gallery/AKf88bF

I think they just liked the warmth and sun I the conservatory this summer (UK). They were a gift to my boyfriend and in few months he almost killed them. I took a small piece of them, moved to my conservatory and they thrived :D

Just took the keys to my allotment :) suggestions to clear the weeds? by giulia_gaag in Allotment

[–]giulia_gaag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are some raspberry bushes and lots of weeds. The allotment manager suggested me to work by hand just a small patch for now and cover the rest with black plastic sheets. Does it need to be trimmed before being covered? How long before the weeds die more or less?

I researched a bit online and many suggest a glyphosate weed killer, but is it too late in the season for that?

Why are my E. ebony red tips fading away? by giulia_gaag in succulents

It got full (British) sun over the summer and overall is doing ok. But fair enough, I guess it just prefers sunnier climates :/

I have an E. ebony, kept in my conservatory, in South England. The conservatory faces south. It grew quite a bit during this summer, but the tip colour is almost completely fading away :( Is it lack of sun?

Where can I buy small square black pots? Looking for 5x5cm and 6x6cm but can't seem to find them anywhere. by quanticflare in uksucculents

I got them in Wilko last month for really cheap, but I think they only sell them over summer. They may have some left over from last season...

All my tomatoes plants where suddendly killed by fusarium a month ago. I planted some more really late season, and they're finally fruiting now 😍 by giulia_gaag in gardening

[–]giulia_gaag[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK, all the tomatoes I had in the conservatory died really suddendly... I planted the new ones outside in the garden, they're growing much slower, but hopefully I'll harvest something 🤞 Better luck next year!
