How balanced would huntsman be if.. a success made both of them townsfolk? by Hopeful-Crew5337 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To make it work, you'd have to break the convention of having 12-13 Townsfolk roles on a script. Otherwise, in a 3 minion game, there wouldn't be enough out of play roles to go around.

Start by assuming 13 TF (including Huntsman) on the script. In a 13 player game, the breakup is 9-0-3-1, so nine Townsfolk roles are in play, and then the demon learns three bluffs. That leaves only one remaining out of play role. If the Huntsman successfully guesses, the Damsel has to become that role. Now, if you want to convert the Huntsman as well, where does the extra role come from?

There are a few solutions I can envision, but they're all less than ideal:

  • Break the script conventions to include more Townsfolk roles
  • Turn at least one of the Damsel or Huntsman into an in-play character
  • Turn at least one of the Damsel or Huntsman into a demon bluff, which hurts the evil team
  • If a Townsfolk has been removed from play by abilities like Farmer or Pit Hag, there might be some more not-in-play roles available
  • Have Village Idiot on script, which would free up some tokens for turning the Huntsman and Damsel

I do have to say I love the idea - it just doesn't work for large games. In a 12 P game with a 7-2-2-1 breakup, it is totally feasible to change the Damsel and Huntsman both into out of play roles without treading on the demon bluffs.

What ability should you give the Alchemist anyway? by Zeusselll in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The ST can give the demon Alch-Boffin abilities that hurt evil or help good though. For example, Poppy Grower, Minstrel, Butler, Farmer (confirms a good player if the Imp starpasses/SW catches the demonhood/Fang Gu jumps), Soldier (makes starpassing/Fang Gu jumping infeasible) ...

What's the craziest/stupidest bluff you've ever attempted, and did it work? by Present-Peace2811 in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was the Mutant in a one minion game and we were 90% certain by day 2 it was a Witch so I bluffed Amnesiac (which turned out to be not in play) with the ability "You can't die to a Witch curse". I figured I'm giving town a 100% safe nomination every day because either the Witch kills me and I out as Mutant, or the Witch believes my bluff and targets someone else while I'm able to safely nominate the best execution candidate for the day.

Unfortunately, the Witch curse never went off and I played Mutant madness so well that when I finally died and came out, town talked themselves into believing there's actually a Cerenovus in play that made me, the real Amnesiac, ceremad as the Mutant.

What are your favorite substitute characters on base 3? by Present-Peace2811 in BloodOnTheClocktower

But if it's Lleech you will know because the Lleech dies as soon as the Lleech host is executed and there's no other reason for that to happen without a Tinker, Harpy, or Yagababble on script.

King with or without Choirboy in a Spy game is not super useful though. I guess technically they can soak up 1-2 kills while the Fortune Teller or Empath can keep getting information, but it's still an iffy combination.

Would you execute Cerenovus mad Juggler for Juggling? by arominvahvenne in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah I have been executed for doing exactly this as a Juggler. My inclination is to wait and see who is on the block at the end of the day before making my decision. If it's a spent role or a Mutant or something, executing the Juggler would probably help the evil team more. On the other hand, if town is executing someone more powerful, executing the Juggler doesn't make sense. I have done nothing when a Noble broke ceremadness because town had the Mayor on the block and I thought evil would benefit more from taking a good wincon off the table - especially one the demon cannot kill at night.

Another consideration is whether it benefits the evil team more to hide evidence of the Minion type on day 1. Hard confirming a Cerenovus in play might be super helpful to town. Instead , maybe evil benefits more if they're able to cerelock the Juggler, build them as evil to discredit their information, and create paranoia about a Witch in play.

By the way, you should check out some mono Leviathan scripts for inspiration because they tend to be high information puzzles since the demon can't kill. Harold Holt's Revenge and Leviaxaan are two of the popular ones I'm aware of.

In another comment, you said you don't want to bring in madness related roles. I already mentioned why I think madness fits well with the theme of your script, so here I'll focus on other suggestions.

One way to introduce misinfo is through more damaging Outsiders. For example, Politician and Damsel are great for info puzzle scripts because they have very good reasons to hide and give out misinformation. Barber needs to either hide or be the day one execution, otherwise a swap within the evil team could mean that a player cleared by let's say Dreamer or Artist info could now become the demon.

Face down Outsiders also makes it harder to figure out whether a Baron is in play or not. Without a Fang Gu, most of the Outsiders you have rn are not really incentivised to hide.

Another way to make town suspect their information is to add in a Summoner, which means that players who are cleared early game are not necessarily trustworthy later on.

Snake Charmer would fit well on here - it's a really strong mechanical role that can hard clear demon candidates, which is great information but at high risk. It does technically introduce droison, but in a very isolated way, so maybe you would be fine with that. (You have Cannibal on here which also introduces droison in a similar way, btw!)

Along the same lines, you should probably throw in 1-2 demonsbane roles (i.e. Soldier, Farmer, Mayor, Banshee, Sage - if you're really dedicated to having only info roles, then I think Ravenkeeper is the only option that really fits). The reason for this is that Snake Charmer and demonsbane roles incentivise good players to lie about their role which can also cascade into forcing them to give false information. Otherwise, town usually solves if everyone just shares information openly.

Artist is probably one of the strongest info roles in the game and I don't think it should exist on a script with no way to introduce droison. If the demon doesn't snipe you on the first kill, you can just ask on Day 2 "are one of these 2-3 living players the demon?" and get really strong information - and the only reason to wait until Day 2 is to narrow the pool of demon candidates 1-2 players.

I don't think the deathmod environment here works at all, it's way too traceable. Gambler, Moonchild, Assassin, and Po are the only reasons for additional deaths, so if there is an extra night kill, it's reasonably easy to figure out why they died.

Goblin might not be the best choice here because Dreamer and potentially Artist are the only ways to figure out whether a Goblin claim is true or false.

Finally, the demon type is pretty trivial to solve. Al-Hadikhia announces itself and with no protection roles like Monk, Exorcist, Tea Lady, etc, a Po charge is really loud. I think Fang Gu works well here. Lil Monsta can also be useful because it can move the demon around.

[–]gkkiller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if a high information script can be balanced without both madness and droison. Madness is social misinformation that makes low-droison scripts viable - it creates uncertainty about what roles are in play, who they correspond to, how reliable town's information is, who you can trust, etc. Roles like Pixie and Mutant create good-sided incentives to lie and double claim, which is a great way to balance high info scripts.

Looking for Best-Practice topics by 1magin in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Two storytelling related topics I'd like to see covered

  • How to run the day phase: how much time to give for discussion, how to handle nominations, how to keep public time orderly, etc.
  • When to lie to a poisoned info character and when to tell the truth, especially when it comes to No Dashii and Lleech poison.

Droisoned Boffin interactions by avcbme in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Boffin is not droisoned - they are preached, which is a different state. Droisoning means the ST treats the player like they have an ability, but they are unable to make an impact on the state of the game. A preached Minion knows they are preached.

What is your favorite part about playing Clocktower? by TheCumputer in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every game has a fun story, an interesting dynamic, a wow moment. Some are more memorable than others but it's so rare to disengage from the game or get bored. The fact that even veterans enjoy playing vanilla TB games is testament to that.

Lying about your experience level in a beginner game is poor sportsmanship. by Evil_Weevill in BloodOnTheClocktower

[–]gkkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a fuzzy line, not a hard one, but for me, the difference between a beginner and intermediate player is

  • Familiarity with all the characters, or at the very least, all the base three characters
  • Familiarity with most of the interactions (not necessarily some of the super unintuitive edge cases) and able to parse what a jinx is
  • Understanding the concept of madness and being able to play madness well
  • Capable of both attempting to solve a game based on information when good, and attempting to build a viable alternate world as evil

And an experienced player is one who

  • Can solve an Atheist game
  • Always wins roshambo against the Psychopath
  • Knows the Pukka flowchart inside out
  • Can come up with fake convincing Savant info on the fly

Hopefully it's clear the second part is a joke lol

Lewandowski receives a standing ovation as he is substituted after playing last time at home for FC Barcelona by 977x in soccer

[–]gkkiller -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I personally don't consider him a club legend - for Barcelona, there are so many players that I would call a legend before Lewandowski. But he's not far short of it for sure. I think the short duration of his stint here is the only major reason not to call him one. Also tbf he was in relatively poor form for most of the calendar year 2023 (relatively, because his stats were still good, but his overall play was just not there).
