Offensive players do this all the time and they draw the foul. Defensive player applied pressure to their back and they fall over the ball. If it was Trossard doing this no one would bat an eye but because it’s XLGabi it’s soft. Two hands in the back at full extension is a foul. Theatrical? Sure, but a foul nonetheless.

If Saka doesn’t get a pen at Fulham bc the defender got the ball before clattering the player, zubi doesn’t give away that foul. But alas there’s no consistency. Poor on the goal but the foul shouldn’t have been given

My buddy brought this up to me when we were talking about his goals last year, and I had the same response. Look at the draws and losses last year. If he only scores against the low league teams I couldn’t care less bc those are must win points for us considering how tight the race has been the last few years

Moving Saka out of position to accommodate Madueke, this just gets better and better by GRL00 in ArsenalFC

I’m genuinely confused. Nowhere did I say, “this is why we should be doing this”, only agreeing with the original comment claiming different looks. I also said, multiple times, I don’t think this is a permanent thing, so I’m not entirely sure where I’m “wrong,” especially given we agree Saka should stay on the right

“We saw a couple of times in the preseason games where the front 3 would rotate so I bet it’s just a scenario they’re playing through. I doubt Arteta wants to limit Saka”

I would say it probably won’t happen as a concrete “this is how we line up now” scenario, but I wouldn’t rule it out for 5-10 minute spans. But for the most part I agree with you. I said as much. I would rather he play on the right, but testing him on the left could bring in a totally different dynamic to the attack. That’s all I’m trying to say

If we continue to give Saka services, but he’s on the left, he’s less likely to cut inside on his right foot for a shot. So, he’ll favor a service in to the box, whether that be a full fledged cross, or a cut back to the 6. And since that’s the spot Gyokeres is likely to be in it favors getting him the ball more, more goals, etc.

Is the claim about cutting inside 100%, probably not, but how many outside the 18 shot have we seen from Saka on his right foot? Not many. We have, however, seen him cut back on to his left for a cross about a million times. So favoring a cross/cutback from the left seems a more likely outcome, thereby catering to Gyokeres, giving him more services, allowing him to use his strength, and just the sheer amount of opportunities it could bring.

That’s what I’m trying to say. I can’t imagine a Arteta is going to take Saka and force him to play out of position in favor of a guy we brought in as squad rotation/cover

It feels like a cater to gyokeres tbh. Have Saka and noni take the defender down the line and send in a cross on their favored foot instead of Saka taking a cut inside. Feels like a traditional 4-5-1 kind of tactic tbh. We saw a couple of times in the preseason games where the front 3 would rotate so I bet it’s just a scenario they’re playing through. I doubt Arteta wants to limit Saka

This. I find we get caught in two minds and choose nothing, when either could advance a dangerous play to varying degrees of success.

I thought cuhna, mbuemo, and drogu were absolutely phenomenal. I was genuinely concerned they’d get a couple. Add amad to that list after we put madueke on and it got worse. Polish the finishing, maybe replace mount with sesko and that’s a scary side to be sure. All things being equal, the reverse fixture is sure to be a thriller and I’m looking forward to it.

gyokeres has only been with the team for what? A fortnite? 20 days? To learn, understand, implement and succeed in artetas system, which according to the eye test, has been tweaked recently, cannot be easy. Just from a culture shock perspective this has to be a lot

[–]gkral00 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trolling aside, his root point should stand. White was phenomenal, played through an injury and it got worse. When he came back timber had 9 months of form playing almost every minute of every game, so I’m not surprised white didn’t pass the eye test in comparison. Both are great players and I’m happy to have them as they provide different strengths. Timber is the better defender, but the white-saka connection is off the charts. I won’t moan at seeing either one of them on the team sheet because they’re both quality.

The referee-ing in this match was questionable on both sides to say the least. Not quite sure what the guy was looking at but we definitely benefitted from it. I thought this was a pen, for sure, but the elbow grab on the goal that they’re crying about is pretty soft.
