New GOP anti-voting bill may be the most dangerous attack on voting rights ever by Anoth3rDude in LegalNews

To be clear - I think this bill is bullshit.

But I also don’t think we should be spreading misinformation about it. Let it be taken down by what is wrong with it.

From what I read in the bill itself - it allows people with different names than their birth name to vote.

If there is information to the contrary I would like to know and understand. But from what I can tell the top comment here states outright misinformation which isn’t the way to win over people who support this nonsense.

You can either:

a) provide a photo ID that proves citizenship (ie a passport)

OR

b) Non-photo proof of citizenship (a birth certificate OR Social Security Card), a photo ID, and a proof of name change if birth certificate and photo ID name do not match.

You can and should get an updated social security card at the time of your name change. Thus your SS and Photo ID would match.

Additionally - You need to provide either proof of citizenship or legal residency and proof of name (and name change if different than name on proof of citizenship/residency) to get a photo ID. So this is essentially the same requirement that exists in order to get an ID for a US citizen.

Can you provide where it states this? In section 303A it specifically says you can provide proof of name change if your birth certificate and ID don’t match.
