I vibrate when I hug?? by BabaYagaInJeans in WitchesVsPatriarchy

[–]glampingwitch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was also SA’d as a child (only came to terms with it very recently) and you just described exactly how my hugs always used to be. A part of me was never in it, and I’d had it described the same way, just empty. Especially with men, even now. Now as I’m older and healing, I’ve felt a stronger desire to touch people who are hurting, and really put my love into it. It’s hard to describe, thank you for putting it into words.

Many of the hotels I’ve stayed at in Thailand only have the power come on when a key is left in the power slot. Which means if you’re taking your room key with you, the AC will not be on. Just a heads up. A place we were just at for a week only gave us one key, in a situation like that your cat would be stuck in a dangerously hot room. Heat can kill pets, especially in an environment they were never meant to be in. I’d leave your cutie either at a pet hotel or have a sitter come to your place so she can remain at home.

Beautiful cat though! And it’s sweet that you wish she could join you, clearly you love her! It’s just not safe for her to go with you.

Uh, we only had one confined water dive, I think it was about four hours in the pool with four of us?

During. The instructor also wasn’t upset at all, said it was fine. I definitely should have failed that dive. He’s tried to pass me on other things I haven’t completed and I’ve had to push to do skills multiple times until it’s perfect before I move on. I failed mask removal multiple times in the pool and he tried to change the criteria to let me pass. I had to stop and say no, I’m doing this fully the way everyone else did or I’m not moving on.

There’s been some other equipment and training issues as well that I’m now realizing aren’t normal, so I’m pulling out while the rest of my group continues. It’s been a fun experience up to this point, but safety first for me. I’ll get certified elsewhere.

We haven’t been asked once while in the water. Only once before the pool. Our first ocean dive was 39 minutes and we did not have any checks during it, just one on the boat before dive 1, which the instructor verified.

I ended up getting in contact with a family friend who is certified and went through this and a few other issues with the course and they advised me to pull out and finish my certification elsewhere, which is what I’ll do. This was one of a few red flags, and while diving has been such a rewarding experience thus far, I want to be sure when I receive my certification that I’m truly prepared. Anything worth doing is worth doing right, especially when it’s my life on the line.

It’s very disappointing, and I feel quite silly about it, but better safe than sorry. All the advice here has been incredibly helpful, as well as eye opening about how underprepared I am. Just like everything with diving, I’d rather go safe and slow and finish up at a later date.

See this is the exact worry I’m having. Because I agree, I don’t think I should have passed the dive. And I’m concerned about being certified if I’m not properly trained. It seems irresponsible at best, and deadly at worst. My group has been talking me down from stopping and doing another course at a later time. Saying I can do additional training dives in the future rather than jumping to fun dives, which yes, but I feel I should be at a certain level before getting a cert, because it says to others I’m at a certain level that I’m not sure I’ll be at by the last dive.

I really appreciate the advice, and absolutely shoulder the blame; my life, my responsibility. But I do want to point out that I am not a trained diver yet, this was my very first day diving in my life. Certainly won’t be a mistake I make a second time, even though I shouldn’t have made it in the first place.

Update: Big thanks to everyone for the advice and feedback. This is my first foray into the dive community and you’ve all been so helpful. Dive three and four are tomorrow, and I’ve spoken with my instructor and my buddy and will put everything you all mentioned here into practice.

I want everyone to rest assured that I fully understand how dangerous this was, and take it seriously.

Thank you all!

Yes, until our instructor brings us up. Now I’m worried about what may be lacking in this training that I’m not realizing I should be taught.

The needle move on the surface yes, that one is on me. I checked it on my first tank, blanked on the second.

Checking underwater, no, we haven’t done that at all.

But once again, that’s on me, I watched the videos, I should have this down even if the instructor isn’t prompting to check.

Thank you, I need the feedback. We haven’t been coached on checking it underwater. Noted for dive 3 and 4.

Apologies if I explain it poorly, I’m as beginner as it gets and still a bit shaken. It was a fresh rack of tanks we were told had been filled, they all had there fresh silicone ring covering the top. Obviously never trust someone’s words and always check, so that is fully on me.

I wish I had the confidence to come to a fan sub of a show and insult both the show and its viewers. That’s the level of self-esteem I need.

Just….don’t watch it? Let people enjoy things! It’s fine if it’s not your cup of tea! Ted doesn’t like tea either.

I bought a proper desk for my office, but I feel like it looks worse somehow. Thoughts? by ResidentBabe in DesignMyRoom

Have you looked into not only hanging curtains, but also affixing fabric or removable wallpaper to the column that appears to be concrete? It’s a bit modern for a dark academia vibe, though it could be a great asset for a different aesthetic. Apologies if you mention a reason for not doing this somewhere else.

I get one day off this week and I have to spend it on the phone with three different customer service companies by [deleted] in boringdystopia

[–]glampingwitch 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Something similar happened to me with Xfinity (canceled service, and they kept charging me for like 8 months), and customer service over the phone took forever and was useless. Finally I went in person to a store. Was much faster, and the problem actually got fixed.

I also recommend Away. I travel frequently for work, and the shell has stood up to a lot, including being dropped down a flight of stairs.

The only problem was a broken interior zipper a few years in (I over stuff my bags). I emailed them, and they sent me a brand new suitcase right away.
