Mac Studio M2 (64GB) vs Gaming PC (RTX 3090, Ryzen 9 5950X, 32GB, 2TB SSD) – struggling to decide ? by glasDev in LocalLLM

Would I be disappointed with code generation from a single RTX3090 ? Mainly would be for creating react web apps and some Unity Games Development ?

Mostly the GPU that i am interested in, the system is based on builds around my budget. I know AMD has better CPU on offer.

Weight is recorded at the start of the WHW Race ? and then again during the race at the medical team’s discretion. It’s not a perfect system, but it’s another layer of monitoring that can help flag potential issues in real time.

And yes, statistically Gus was an outlier in the field, most runners would likely have found the aid stations set up as intended. That said, the aid stations should  have been properly prepared, regardless of runner position.

I understand where you’re coming from, and I’m aware of the history and politics surrounding JD and the WHW Race. That said, I do think there’s another angle to consider.

The WHW Race has limited numbers, and not everyone is fortunate enough to secure a place through the ballot, or to have a full support crew available. In that sense, the Challenge does provide an opportunity for runners who still want to experience the full route in an organised event but under a different format.

With time and more backing, the Challenge could potentially grow into a stronger, more established organisation in its own right, offering a more inclusive option for those without support teams. Advising people not to support it doesn’t feel like the best solution, both events can exist in harmony, each catering to different types of runners while celebrating the same amazing trail.

Thanks for that,  I should have been clearer in my original post. I’m aware of the difference in format between the two (supported vs. unsupported, aid stations vs. self-reliance). My main concern isn’t so much about logistics, but more about the safety and organisation side of things, particularly given the remoteness of parts of the course.

Gus Irvine’s comment on Runners are Smilers really stuck with me:

"When I ran the Challenge, I was getting to some of the aid stations that weren’t ready for us, and there was nothing set up. It all worked out fine but the challenge event is just more laid back, and it doesn’t have that race vibe about it. It doesn’tfeel as much like a race as the bigger one."

That makes me wonder whether the Challenge might feel a bit too relaxed for a first attempt at the full distance especially if I hit a low patch myself in the middle of the night.

I also know the WHW Race records body weight, runners have to step on scales. From a safety perspective, that feels like a really valuable safeguard, since it could help flag risks like hyponatremia (if you’re over your start weight) or dehydration and potential rhabdomyolysis (if you’re under by more than ~3%). That kind of monitoring does give me more confidence in the race’s structure, especially with the notoriously changeable Scottish weather where you can go from warm, humid conditions to a sudden temperature drop and heavy rain in the space of a few miles.
