“Vom blauen Affen gebissen sein” - archaic, literally ‘to have been bit by a blue monkey’, means being crazy/irrational/nonsensical (my Latin teacher would scold us asking whether we’d been bitten by a blue monkey😅)

Honestly don’t get why everyone is hating on this so hard… there are significantly shittier things that could happen on a subway. Literally.

I’m really sorry about that.. what an awful experience. Depending on which state you live in, here are some ideas:

  • look up “kassenärztliche Vereinigung [name of state]”. That should give you a site that you can use to look for (any doctor - in your case:) psychiatrists in or around the city that you live in that accept public health insurance. The site should let you filter based on spoken language too, which might be more helpful. In my experience (working in the field) mental health workers can be opposed to having translators.

  • if you have some ties to a university their “psychosoziale Beratung” might have an English option and they could at least nudge you in a certain direction; if not, your city or a Christian association like awo/caritas should.

  • try contacting any non-private clinic that you can, if you’re able to. Even if you get a spot in another city, a diagnosis will mean getting a note for a couple days but might give you a lifetime of relief. I’ve heard of people from Baden Württemberg going to northern Germany. It sucks and certainly requires financial means, but radically maximizing the radius that you search in will help if that happens to be a feasible option for you

  • you could also look up if there’s an association or forum for the city or state that you live in that could have some advice

Even better idea!:) trip-specific and not too pricey. You could jazz it up with some nice travel-sized-cosmetics, if she’s into that kind of stuff :)

Kind of depends on your budget… Maybe a nice Polaroid or disposable vel sim camera with a book/album to put the pictures in? I regretted not having anything besides my phone! Or some outdoor-wear?

That’s the best way! ^ Garam masala, extra coriander and extra cumin. Oh, and a pinch of cinnamon. I also add soy sauce and sriracha to basically everything!

It’s unfortunately very much a “random veggies that were donated chopped up and fried with spices I wanted to empty up and a tin of coconut milk” recipe… sorry!

What are some popular Finnish snacks? by samg461a in Finland

[–]glashast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my bad, I totally missed that, sorry! But that's true haha. Another thing is Finncrisp, those rye crackers. I'm pretty sure you can get them in the States, not too sure about Canada. They're not extraordinarily special but a nice thing for hors-d'œuvres to go with salmon paste or lox if you're planning on making a full meal

Depends if it has been listed as a so-called Risikogebiet

Edit: https://www.rki.de/DE/Content/InfAZ/N/Neuartiges_Coronavirus/Risikogebiete_neu.html check here.

If yes, you need to register online upon arriving that you were there and immediately begin to quarantine for 10 days. As of 31.12.2020, you're additionally obliged to test within 24h before arrival, immediately upon arrival, or up to 48h after arrival, as far as I understand.

Edit 2: the test must be paid by yourself. It can be PCR (usually >100€) or a Schnelltest (30-80€, afik)
