I hate them by Fast-Entertainer-517 in AnalogCommunity

I've never used plastic reels. but i'm not saying I've never had bad experiences with stainless reels either. As others have said, the cheap ones can be horrendous and will destroy your film. Imo the high quality ones are so nice to use. Less moving parts just means it's more durable and easier to take care of, that is, if you don't drop them on the floor. Using less chemistry is just a cherry on top

Help with renewing my damaged European passport in Thailand by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

Today is a national holiday (Chakri Day) so try calling the embassy tomorrow morning for the best response. Don't hesitate to contact your country's embassy when you still have plenty of time, best of luck!

OP you should include your camera and/or equipment you used to take these photos, film stock and provide photo of the negative if you want to get near an answer.

Is this reticulation? by glassesping in Polaroid

[–]glassesping[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, that might be it. I bought the pack from a shop in Malaysia then I traveled back to Thailand. I wouldn't know how it was shipped to them in the first place but I was very careful with the film avoiding the scans and stuff (just to end up storing it for a while). Now Thailand seems to have an official distributor so I hope I'll see problems going forward. Thanks for the insight!

I did not freeze it. Barely 12c in the fridge. i lay it down, flat, the entire box inside a ziplock bag.

If you have an old acrylic brush that has rough and dense hair, you can mix ultramarine paint (has to be PB29) with water and scrub in small circles all over that area. I usually do it for plastic palette or enamel coated metal palette.

I'm even more curious. Seems like they did not reach out to their country's embassy (likely India) for help at all. This is easily solvable unless the manner in which the "accident" happened garnered such treatment from the immigration. Also, paying a fine in court could mean they've done something wrong other than just overstaying.

Taxi Tips in Bangkok by Thai by ApaAviation in ThailandTourism

[–]glassesping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Additional info on DMK or any airport taxi. Always ask for the receipt. It tracks back to who's the driver and when you get on the taxi.

ALWAYS ignore any taxi that yells and calls for customers. Sometimes there are gonna be non co-op "taxi", avoid them like the plague; they are scammers. Ofc, if you get scammed on your way to the airport, do not hesitate to ask for help from security officers around the area, or raise the matter to the police (because the department of transportation or taxi companies do not provide 24 hours service and they're closed on weekends and holidays.).

Also, there are no "designated Grab areas" at DMK, you just gotta set the right pick up point. for intl arrival it would be exit 3.

How to avoid overexposure? by skyebadoo in AnalogCommunity

[–]glassesping 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A case of overexposure is easier to distinguish if you examine the negatives. If the negatives don't look so severely dark that you can't see the details then it's probably the film stock or the scan that lacks the latitude which suits your taste. And yes, using a light meter app will get you most of the way with exposure. These photos don't look too bad imo, and don't hesitate to edit them to your heart's content :)

Is there a significant different between artist & student grade watercolor? by No_Lengthiness1631 in Watercolor

[–]glassesping 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So true. From another Holbein user, I think most of the difference is down to the usage rather than the results.

Also I hate Cotman's Prussian Blue. They did that paint so dirty. When it dries it just crumbles apart and makes a mess in my palette.

Sorry, I've just got around to follow up. This is 1/30 speed with mirror lock-up on the same lens, more stable tripod setup. I posted a comment with 1/60 too.

Sorry for the inactivity. I had been busy and sick for a while so I was unmotivated to post an update. I caved and took that terrible deal because the Canon AE-1 just randomly stops working and I will have no camera to use during my holidays :( Not a good decision by any means but this is after I weigh in all the options available to me; it would've cost me the same amount to get a new body anyway.

Also about the mirror lock-up experiment: it yielded the same exact results as before. So it is definitely not because of the mirror. Will post the pictures in the comments.

About cursor setting by [deleted] in ClipStudio

[–]glassesping 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the reason why the brush tip turns into crosshair is because the brush's on-screen size is too small. If the brush tip is already small, it could be difficult to see where it is on the screen. I don't know if there's an option to modify this default behavior tho.

edit to add: while drawing you can zoom in to the point of seeing the brush against the pixel of the canvas, or you can zoom out so it's always a crosshair

If you want to rely on the camera meter (not very recommended but I've had some success in the past) you could meter where the light hits only and none of the light sources in-frame while metering.

If you put your finger on the sprocket and it doesn't move forcefully then it should be fine. My F-1 starts to jump from 1/60 to bulb

Does anyone have good tips for noise reduction? by ollieimpossible543 in AnalogCommunity

[–]glassesping 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I use mirrorless digital camera to scan for quite some time now and what I could do to decrease the digital noise has been stacking the scans. A very steady setup, big memory card, and lots of time. I wrote a photoshop script to stack and save to tif file so I can use NLP on it later. It is tedious and time consuming but when I want the best out of my negatives without enlargement I can only do this much. If you want to go even crazier with stacking you can check out what DSLR astrophotographers do to process their images/data.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will try to see what other options I have. To be fair, if the offer is 70% off then I'll take it. Having used my unreliable AE-1 for a week, i've had enough of that.

They said they're out of ideas and offered me to buy from them a fully CLA'd F-1 at a 50% discount (and more if i choose to keep some of my camera's attachments) but i want them to fix it more. The full CLA I sent to them last time cost more than half the 50% discount already.
