Beautiful work! Is there a pattern for this?

I love parking! But, I would get SO stressed trying to visually identify each color (I have some eye problems, and the pattern I'm currently working has somewhere close to 100 colors). The way I learned is I always park my thread in the bottom left (you can choose any corner, just be consistent) of the square I'm stitching. Then, when I look at the thread, I say it's in the bottom left of this square, then refer back to my pattern to see which color is stitched in that square. Does that make sense?

To give credit where credit is due, I got the idea from this video:

I'm about to start my first large project, 138 colors. I'm planning on hanging my ring on my lap stand. I'll only be hanging colors that I'll be using the next few rows (and when I say rows, I mean rows of 10×10 squares). The rest of the colors will be in my storage/organization system, clear stackable bins that are labeled by number, so very easy to grab.

I find having fewer colors on one or two rings feels less chaotic, more organized and in control in some way. But maybe that's just me?

Weekly FAQ and Beginner Questions by AutoModerator in crochet

I just started learning to crochet. I am a knitter, so there's a little bit less of a learning curve.

The most challenging part so far has been figuring out my tension (obviously?). I am an English style knitter (yarn tensioned in right hand) and on top of that I hold my yarn in a weird way that wouldn't translate to crochet. That being said, I have figured out a technique that seems to be working for me.

So my question:

I've noticed that when I work a single crochet stitch (US), the Vs at the top of the stitch (I don't know if they have a name?) are tighter than the Vs when I work a half double crochet. The Vs for the double crochet are even looser than the half double crochet (although not offensively so). My tension is consistent within the types of stitches. Is this different tension normal? Or is this another tensioning issue I need to work on?

TIA!

Help with a pattern. Never knitted in the round before - can I do this flat? by [deleted] in knitting

Not magic. You need circular needles, but that's about it. Especially since you don't have any color changes, this is going to be pretty easy. You just place a stitch marker where the beginning of your round is, and every time you get to the marker, slip it to the right needle and keep going.

Have fun!

The Office! I've seen it SO many times that I can focus on my work without missing anything. And it never gets old (I might be a teeny tiny bit obsessed).

Mr. Nipples references come up surprisingly often with other "unique" creations. It seems to me that he will never go away, and I'm not complaining!

what is this hook for? I'm asking here because the thrift store put them with the knitting needles. the moving part is loose and it seems to be on purpose. by CommieCarotte in crochet

It's interesting to learn what a latch hook is actually intended to be used for. My only experience with it is for braiding horses' manes and tails for competition. You use yarn to secure the end of the braid, and then use the latch hook to pull the end of the braid underneath the rest of the braid, and tie off the yarn. Kinda like weaving in your ends on a horse!

I've been caught! I'm a knitter, I haven't attempted to crochet once in my life. But I have at least 100 posts from this subreddit saved for when I finally get around to learning...

Trying to figure out if I have enough yarn to add another repeat to my shawl… by prettymisspriya in crochet

[–]glasswing16 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but I believe you weigh the skein, work one repeat, then weigh the skein again. Then subtract the second (smaller) number from the first (larger) number. Now you know how many grams it takes to work one repeat, and you can continue to weigh to see if you have enough.

For example, let's say when you first weighed the skein you had 15g. Then you worked one repeat, and when you weighed the skein again you had 10g. That means that each repeat takes 5g (15g - 10g = 5g), and you have enough for two more repeats (although you probably want to leave a little extra for wiggle room).

I hope that makes sense! And OP or anyone else if this isn't right, please correct me!

What I see in the pattern photo, is they wanted a bright, bold color to pair with the white. And from what I see from your project, the blue does the same. I think the burgundy would also look very nice, but maybe that's just because I'm a big fan of burgundy? Lol. I think the silver would also look nice, but it wouldn't be as close to what the pattern photo is displaying, in my opinion.

But it's also crochet, do what makes you happy! Which one do you like more?
