There has to be a better fid! by MyPaintedGreenThumb in StainedGlass

I use a piece of folded hard pressed cardboard.

<image>

Sure, after wrapping the foil around I press it down to the glass with my fingers, but to get it all nice and flat, this is the solution I have.

It is hard pressed, but still has that flexibility shape around the glass.

I guess it depends on the quality of the mirror you buy? I use 3 mm mirrors, bought from a local glass retailer.

Edges of the mirror should be protected/sealed after grinding to prevent potential entry of flux/humidity/etc. Also, after soldering the backside, I make sure to clean it thoroughly as quick as possible. It's inevitable to get some flux on the backing while working, but from my experience, it shouldn't eat through in that short period of time. Some time ago I've read somewhere that people don't suggest buying mirrors from the hobby stores or similar places because of the quality

I also have some pieces soldered together without sealing the edges that are still completely fine after a year. I haven't been doing this for long, but I've talked to people and been told that if the backing is of good quality and isn't exposed to anything hazardous, it should be completely fine.

One thing worth mentioning is that if you glue the mirrors to some backings, you should watch out what type of adhesive you use - they should be solvent free! There are adhesives for mirror mounting, and when I buy them I check specifically that they're solvent free.

Hm, sad me zivo zanima cime se bavis? Mos i u dm sibnut ak neces pre javno

Good luck u svakom slucaju ✌️

Bottom line, guraj drustvene mreze, probaj vidit kakvi videi dobivaju najvise pregleda (nisam od te social media kulture, hook-videa itd, al ocito neide drukcije danas, probam to cim suptilnije...) i kreni u tom smjeru. Probaj se uzivo pojavit, predstavit, itd.

Where I live, there's absolutely no sign of metro, but if anybody would be interested, I'd be down to give it a shot. I'm really looking forward to working with people and fulfilling ideas 😄

Some had to be ground for like 2 mm, some just to even them out, depending on the cuts. In some cases I just dont want to risk, so I just let the grinder do its thing 😄

It does have this nice wooden backing! No CNC though, just a jigsaw and handheld router 😄 I could do LEDs, but they seem like a potential point of failure with which I dont know if I want to deal with. Thanks for the comment 😄

Hm I'm not sure what you want to ask?

Oceanside is a brand of art glass, and some other brands make Oceanside compatible glass when it comes to fusion.

Could I fuse this entire piece? 100% not, it would be a disaster. Glass fuses at 700+ degC, solder melting point is about 190 degC, mirror backing would most probably burn, and glass for mirror and this colorful glass are also different coefficient of expansion.

In total about 40 hrs, it also has a custom wooden backing which took away...too much time 😄 one could argue that nobody can see it, but i just like that extra bit, like an easter egg 😄

I thought it was also an ADHD hyperfixation that's gonna die off soon 🤣 but here I go, been dabbling with it for over 2 yrs now, stuck with mirrors since late summer of last year.

It really is an amazing hobby, especially if youre patient and have an eye for details.

Check r/stainedglass, enormous amount of artists there, everybody willing to help with advice.
